I slept like a log after coming home from school yesterday. The reason being, of course, is to be on time for today’s meet-up in perfect condition. I pushed Ascena to do it, but she made that lunch box I wanted. Thank you, Ascena.

“… Everyone’s late.”

It’s already 10 o’clock, as agreed. However, no one’s in front of the main gate. Shilde already has a reputation of being late for whatever reason, so she’s fine… has Yusha overslept? Hira seems to always be punctual but… she’s coming just as I was thinking about her.

“I’m very sorry!” Hira said as she hurries over. She’s so out of sorts, no matter how you look at it, it’s dangerous.

“Oh, you don’t have to hurry,” I said, “you’re just the second one here.”

“Are we?” Hira says. “So we are… Yusha and Shilde aren’t here yet.

She ran all this way without confirming that… what a basic oversight…

After waiting for a while, Yusha walked up. “Good mor-ning…! Sorry for being late… I saw an old lady in trouble along the way, so I got held up helping her out~”

It sounds suspicious but I believe it because it’s coming from Yusha. If she finds an old lady in trouble, I’ve little doubt she’d help her out.

“That’s fine…” I said. “What about Shilde? It’s been 15 minutes already, hasn’t it?”

“I’m worried…” Hira says.

Yusha hums. “Shall we head to Shilde’s house, then? I’m sure she’s just still asleep~!”

I thought it was a stupid excuse… but on second thought, that’s possible with Shilde. I can easily imagine her oversleeping and saying, “Oh, sorry.”

“Is Shilde’s place near here?” I ask.

“Yep! It’s only a 5-minute run there!” Yusha says.

“I-I’d prefer we walk…” Hira mutters.

I agree with Hira and walk with her. It’s not like we’re in much of a hurry, so it’s fine.

We make it there after a while; from the outside, we can see it’s just an ordinary house. Incidentally, do you often build Hero Academies in the middle of a residential area…? Wouldn’t you normally build it closer to the borders of such a district?

“Shilde…!” Yusha yells. “Come-out-and-play…!”

“Hey, Yusha!” I say. “Isn’t this kind of childish?”

“… Huh?” Hira says.

Is something up? Yusha’s got a poker face on. It’s like this is natural for her!

About a minute after Yusha called out, we heard a rattling noise from Shilde’s house. No way… am I hearing what I think I’m hearing?”

“Ah, my bad, my bad, I overslept,” Shilde said.

… I see. I probably should have seen this coming.

“Geeze, you have to learn to wake up on time, Shilde!” I said.

Shilde chuckles sheepishly. “I think today’s supposed to be a day-off…”

“But it’s all good,” Hira said. “At least there wasn’t an accident or anything…”

“You worry too much, Hira,” Yusha said.

It’s been 4 days since we met yet we’re getting along so well… school is amazing!

Yusha hums playfully. “It’s a secret!”

Huh… she can’t tell me yet? I’m half excited and half nervous hearing this coming from Yusha.

“It’ll be fine!” she said. “It’s a very fun place!”

“Fun place”… the Demon World’s definition of that is a “Hell Tour”. I have no idea what’s fun because of my bad taste… maybe I have more sensibility than humans from the start. Will be this be a discovery?

As I followed Yusha silently, we came out to what looked like a bustling commercial area.

“We’re here! The ‘Hero Department Store’!”

“‘Hero’…?” I start.

“‘Department Store’…?” Hira continues with me.

As Shilde already lived in the area, her reaction is just like, “Oh, we’re here.”

“Here, you can buy cute clothes and things that Heroes need… swords, for example!” Yusha says.

What a chaotic shopping center! It still looks nice… this could be more fun than I’m expecting!

T/N: I’m about as surprised at the reveal of what kind of setting this is as you are, though I suppose the description of your standard Japanese crappy wooden apartment should have tipped me off along with the talk of the tech difference between humans and demons.
