“Princess, where should we go tomorrow?” Ascena asks, her eyes shining. I wonder why she’s so excited?
“Hmm… maybe we should go hunting for monsters at at Mazuki Forest?”
“Hooray!” Ascena cheers. “I’ll go make us lunch box for tomorrow~!”
Monster hunting… it’s a pastime that’s unheard of among humans. It’s an exciting sport to exterminate monsters, those creatures that harm both humans and demons alike, but it doesn’t seem to be that popular with the former. It’s strange, it’s like going on a picnic for us demons.
“It’s one of life’s great pleasures,” I hum. “This is the first time I’ve gone monster hunting in a long while! Isn’t that right, Ascena?”
“That’s right, Princess,” Ascena said. “I was only tagging along last time.”
Then that means… it’s been 7 years since then.
“Are-are you going to be alright?” I ask. “Are you rusty?”
Ascena fumes. “I’ve trained myself to protect the Princess! I’ll be fine!”
“Heh… than I suppose it’ll be fine to go hunting for bigger game than when we were kids, right?” I ask.
“Right!” Ascena beams. “Please, leave it to me~”
It’s bad luck to say all this out loud… but I’m confident enough to do it anyway. I’m looking forward to tomorrow.
“Let’s go to bed early tonight,” I say. “Good night, Ascena.”
“Right away! Good night, Princess~!”

Chirp, chirp… a little bird’s song… is it morning already?
“Good morning, Princess~!” Ascena says, wearing an apron as she fills up the lunch box. Is she my wife or something? She’s so cute…
When I went out to the living room, my breakfast was already set out for me. I love this so much… without Yusha, I would have married Ascena in a heartbeat.
“I’m looking forward to today, Princess~!” Ascena hums.
“So am I,” I said. “I won’t just be hunting monsters but I’ll be playing with you for the first time in a long while, so I’m extra excited.”
She is my first friend.
“Well then, let’s head out!” Ascena said. “Are you all packed?”
“All good!” I said. “I’m traveling light today.”
We move around sneakily as I’ll be flying from here. I did it at the entrance ceremony but since flight is seen as an advanced magic, I don’t want to be seen using it too much. I think I can take off if I find a place with little traffic like a back alley, however.
“Right, let’s go,” I said. “Can you fly, Ascena?”
“But of course!” Ascena says. “See for yourself!”
“Alright! Blast off!” I said.
We fly to Mazuki Forest. Well, it is relatively close to the Human World.
Wait… there’s nobody else there? I suppose I shouldn’t be so surprised, we are at war. Everyone is off hunting humans than monsters… and I just thought about something I’ve been trying to avoid.
I’ll switch tracks to happy thoughts. We’re having a picnic today.
… And, we’re here in no time at all!
“Princess!” Ascena cries. “We’ve got one already!”
“It’s fine,” I said, “I’ll leave it to you.”
Woo! Ascena doesn’t even hesitate. The monster is getting closer… a Monster Cow, a common monster. Well, I was able to hunt those no problem 7 years ago, so there should be no problem now.
“Here I go! Flamma!”
Fire bursts out from Ascena’s mouth. Unsurprisingly, the monster doesn’t stand a chance against her…
“Victory! It’s an easy win!” Ascena says, making the V-sign with her hand.
Yep, that’s cute.
I gaze at Ascena’s flames, the thundering hooves echoing in the distance. Yes, the fun part of this sport is that you can feel the thrill of monsters charging right for you. Even better, there are no other monster hunters with us today. In short, we can let loose with all we’ve got!
“I feel like using Demon Magic for the first time in a while. For starters… Trueno!”
With a massive explosion, the enemies disintegrate. Compared to when I was a kid, I beat it faster than ever, so it feels a lot easier. It’s a shame that the excitement drops proportionally.
I wonder if we ended up hunting all the monsters here, nothing else is coming at us.
Ascene sighs and says, “That was fun! Shall we have lunch?”
“Let’s,” I said. “Let’s have a second round after eating~!”
Ascena was in high spirits. While I was looking away she was beating monsters one after the other. She looks adorable while being crazy strong.
