THAT SAME MORNING it was going completely different for Mittie and Albert. Just when they left Draco's office, she did not hesitate to talk to him, question him a bit, and get to know him.
"So, you are the famous Albert." She said as they walked through the corridors of the Ministry and turned her face to him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
"I didn't know I was famous." He responded with a chuckle, putting his hands in his pants pockets.
"Well, I've heard something out there." She answered. They both turned the corner and Albert laughed again at such a woman so determined and sure of her words, who did not hesitate when speaking.
"I'm looking forward to hearing those things." He replied amused.
They arrived at her office and both entered. Determined Mittie motioned for him to take a seat, and then she did the same. She rummaged through all of her documents as she sighed "Well, I've heard something about you being Annelisse's new boyfriend." She finally answered, handed him a sheet of paper for him to sign, confirming that he had attended work "Look, I thought I would work with Annelisse, so I finished practically all the work to be able to spend the morning with her, but it turned out to be not like that." clasping her hands and leaning on the desk, looking at Albert.
"And what do you mean by that?"
"Since we have hardly any work to do and you've clearly worked before on a Ministry, I'm going to put you through an interrogation." She slightly narrowed her eyes, wrinkling her nose a little.
Albert leaned back against his seat with a sideways smile, incredulous but enjoying it. Mittie was like him and he liked that. He ended up raising his hands "Go ahead, I'm listening."
Mittie repositioned herself and crossed arms "Why—did she leave?" She frowned at her own question.
"I cannot talk about that." He rolled his eyes to her. "But I don't think it's hard for you to understand why, when your dear friend—Draco was, right? He has already seen the mark, the scar." Mittie was surprised at that explanation, raising both eyebrows "Since you are just like me and you're not afraid to say things, I have no qualms about saying what I am about to say."
Albert leaned forward, approaching Mittie a little from the other side of the desk "Annelisse had a really bad time and had no choice, she couldn't do anything else. And both you and I, know the truth, who was the culprit. She can't talk about it because of— besides, you don't know the whole story in full."
"So you do—" She moved a little closer to him "—and what are we supposed to do?" asked, shaking her head slightly, confused at his words. "
"Support her." He said on a sigh.
"I try, we all do, but it's not easy when they don't tell you the most important part." She snapped that last.
Albert let out a small laugh "I try as hard as you do to make her see reason even though it hurts me to do so. She has been wanting to return for five years and it was difficult to convince her when the time came, besides being something absurd."
"Absurd, because...?" She asked.
"Isn't it obvious? I've come for her."
"Draco is with someone and you are with Annelisse, I don't understand the problem." Mittie said seriously.
"Annelisse decided to come back, why do you think she did it, what is the most obvious reason?" He raised an eyebrow, to which Mittie drew back a bit, being speechless "And as much as it hurts, I can't take away her attempt to be happy at last. She's been through a lot too, Mittie." Frowned.
"So, what are you doing here?"
"Because she has feelings for me too and well, love is a pretty stupid thing. I couldn't forgive myself for not trying at least."
"You make it really difficult to hate you, damn." To which he laughed at such comment "Look, I just want the happiness of the two of them, however they end up, together or apart."
"Then be her friend, not her hindrance. When she is ready, she will speak."
"God, this is like a TV drama." She brought her hand to her forehead, running over it.
"It is." He leaned over to Mittie, resting her arm on her desk. "I can't wait to meet the rest of the group." He scoffed. She ran her tongue over her teeth, trying not to smile.
"So, American, handsome, a little bigmouth and Annelisse's boyfriend, anything else I should know about you?" Tried to change the subject.
"Yes, one. I'm not her boyfriend."
"You lied?"
"No, you never asked."
"You never deny it either."
"Well, you seemed very excited about the idea." He rolled his eyes, mockingly.
"You are impossible, Galbott."
"People tell me this a lot." He smirked. Their gazes connected for a few seconds and although neither wanted to acknowledge it, they felt something strange doing it, something pleasant. After a few clearing throats, they both looked away, looking elsewhere.
"Well, let's finish as soon as possible with the work we have and we can go to have a coffee at the cafeteria of the Ministry, continuing the interrogatory."
"Sounds good to me." He smiled at her. Mittie rolled her eyes but with a smile. Albert's way of being disconcerted her a bit, like most people.
