Chapter 8

We sat the kitchen table as I finished my story.

"That's weird." Riley said.

I nodded. "Yeah I know. Lucas hardly ever snaps at me."

"He may be stressed over his new job. It's hard Maya." Riley said.

I blinked. "Are you on his side?"

Riley looked at me questioningly. "There are no sides."

I sighed, leaning up in my chair. "I guess your right."

Riley nodded and looked at her phone. "And you know what day today is?"

I blinked. "Saturday?"

"No. It's valentines day! And well, also Saturday."

I facepalmed myself. "Oh it is! I totally forgot."

"Hopefully Lucas gives something to you." Riley said, standing up.

"You leaving?" I asked.

Riley nodded. She then looked down and fingered her bracelet. "Farkle is taking me out to lunch."

I stood up, grinning. "Ooh. Have fun!"

She grabbed her stuff and walked towards the front door. "Thanks! I'll text ya later."

I nodded and watched her car disappear.

I then walked back into the kitchen to see Annie asleep in her high chair.

I laughed at the sight and picked her up. "Somebody must be tired."

I carried her to her crib and set her down carefully.

I cracked her door and looked at my bedroom door shut.

Taking a deep breath, I opened it and saw Lucas on his phone.

I walked over and sat next to him, waiting for him to say something.

"I'm sorry I snapped at you." He said, not looking at me.

"It's okay." I said simply,

After a few moments of silence, I lifted his chin up and locked eyes with him. "Happy valentines day."

His eyes suddenly widened and he stood up. "I almost forgot!"

"You forgot to get me something didn't you." I said, watching him go to the closest.

He came out, holding a bag. "Who said I forgot?"

I smiled, looking at the bag. "Mhmm."

He came over and placed the bag in front of me.

I took out bouquets of flowers and looked Lucas. "You remembered my favorite."

He chuckled and I leaned back in the bed.

Back in 8th grade when Lucas and I has crushes on each other, our first convo was about flowers since Lucas liked me.

I guess flowers is what got us together in the first place.

"Thank you.. I love it."

We hugged and Lucas kissed me on the cheek.

He then stood up and said, "I'll be right back."

I nodded, not questioning him.

The door shut and I looked on the bed to see Lucas's phone.

I bit my lip and decided not to eavesdrop on it.

But, then I remembered when Lucas was always on his phone a few days ago.

I sighed and debated in my mind if I should watch it or not.

Before I could, a message popped up and I picked it up slowly.

It was from...Missy Bradford. An old enemy from high school.
