Chapter 33

Lucas's POV:
It's been two hours at the Texas state fair with my family and it's been awesome.

Definitely not anything you would see at a fair in New York.

After getting some food from a food stand, I looked at my phone.

I haven't gotten any text messages from Maya since we first left.

I guess that means nothing bad has happened.

I put my phone away to see my dad and brother in front of me.

"Hey Lucas I want to show you something." My dad said.

"Is it that bull you were talking about?" I asked.

"Of course it is." Derek said.

We started walking over and I asked, "where'd mom go?"

"Oh, she went to go get drinks. I think it's her reason to not watch the bulls."

We arrived at the arena and I watched as people were riding the bulls.

Wow. I remember when I rode a bull. The last time I did it was when I was 15.

And then I suddenly remembered something...

It almost slipped my mind but it's a great memory.

When my friends and I were all freshman in high school and we came here...

~Four years earlier~
"I still can't believe my dad entered me in this." Lucas said, putting his hat on.

Riley and Farkle had just gotten food and looked at Lucas.

"You'll be fine. Right?" Riley said.

They all turned around to watch the bulls and they saw people falling off within a second.

"Ouch." Farkle said.

Maya was next to them, looking at the bulls also. "There's no way you can ride that thing."

"I think I'll be fine." Lucas said.

Maya turned to him. "Are you serious? Are you seeing this? You're going to get hurt."

Usually Maya would be teasing and making fun of Lucas but that day...she was serious.

Riley came up to Maya. "Lucas is going to be fine. Right Lucas?" She turned to me.

They kept saying that. But they weren't sure it was true. Neither was Lucas.

They heard the Lucas's name called over the intercom, meaning it was his turn.

Riley and Farkle had left, to go get a seat outside.

It was unbelievable to Maya. It's like they didn't even care if he got hurt or not.

Lucas started to walk away when he heard Maya's voice.

"Lucas, if you go on that bull..."

He turned around. "What?"

Maya took a deep breath. "You know what, nevermind. Go ahead."

"Maya wait--"

She had already walked away and Lucas's dad had walked up to him. "You ready son?"

Lucas put his helmet back on slowly, looking in her direction. "Umm yeah. I guess."

They walked into the arena and the intercom went off again.

Lucas was already climbing onto the bull, looking around.

He could see his friends in the crowd, but no sign of maya.

Within seconds, he could already feel the bull moving.

And it didn't take long for him to fall off either.

But, he was in for over three seconds. Which meant he had won.

"Are you okay?" He heard Riley faintly say.

Her and Farkle had ran on to see if he was alright.

Lucas leaned up. "Somewhat."

He took his helmet off and looked around the arena.

He immediately saw Maya, standing in a corner by herself.

She must've been watching the whole time.

He ran over to her direction, ignoring what his dad had to tell him.

He reached her and sat on the rock next to her.

"So you saw." Lucas finally said.

Maya nodded. "Yes."

She looked up at him. "But I'm glad you're okay."

"What were you going to say earlier?" I asked her.

Maya shrugged her shoulders. "It's not a big deal. Really..."

Before anything else could happen, they both looked at each other for a long time, not even saying anything.

It wasn't awkward or anything, it was kind of...nice.

Then, Lucas felt himself leaning in and...they kissed.

And that's how I first discovered I liked Maya hart.

You have no idea how happy I am I went on that bull now.

"Lucas? Lucas?" Derek said.

I snapped back to reality. "What?"

"He must be thinking of that Maya story again." He rolled his eyes.

A little moment of how Maya and Lucas both started liking each other 😍

So it ties into girl meets Texas but this is what happened in the story when they were younger.

This should've happened man but I love the campfire scene.
