"It's been three decades Edward. Three decades for Christ's sake! Stop moping and get over it." Rosalie scolded at Edward who was staring out the window mindlessly, not listening to a word she said.

Edward didn't know how long he had been staring out that window counting the blades of grass. Counting the ants that ran along the logs. Counting the number of autumn leaves that fell from the oak trees and landed on the soft, Alaskan ground.

He didn't realize that he had been staring out that window for exactly three months straight, never once looking away.

"Rose, he's still coping. It's our duty as his family to stand by him and be there for him through all of it, no matter how long that is." Alice consoled quietly.

It had been a bit over three decades since that treacherous night when Edward Cullen killed Bella Swan.

Edward whisked through the trees, allowing his hunting instincts to take over. He could remember the smell of Bella Swan's blood as if he was right there with her, and that alone was enough to keep him on his course towards her house, even as the guilt he was feeling consumed him.

Within minutes, he was standing at her front door. Her red chevy truck was parked at an angle in her empty driveway, no police cruiser in sight.

'At least I won't have to kill her father as well' Edward thought to himself, though that did nothing to lessen the shame that he was feeling.

As he silently opened the door and stepped into the house, his throat immediately erupted into flames. He was instantly drowned in Bella Swan's scent as he closed the door behind himself, and he knew there was no turning back now, even if he wanted to.

Alice was too heavily focused on monitoring Jasper as they left school, that she had not seen the choice Edward had made. He knew she'd see it soon, in fact, she probably already had by now, but it was too late. None of them would get there in time to stop him, and none of them would try to. This is a choice he made, and he would have to live with it.

Edward stalked Bella from the shadows of her kitchen, watching her as she diced up some carrots on a cutting board to go with her dinner.

Edward would give the girl a quick death, that's the least he could do.

Wanting to get it over with, he instantly sped over to her, snapping her neck with ease. She felt no pain whatsoever as he did it quickly and effortlessly.

Now that the girl was dead, he could do what he came here for.

Drink her blood.

He latched onto her throat, the hot liquid instantly soothing the burn he had been previously feeling. He had never tasted blood as good as hers in all of his 104 years.
