You're a weapon, and weapons don't weep.

"Before the death of my daughter, Reneé and I were divorced," he explained, "and that's actually part of the reason that Bella moved here in the first place. Her death, I guess, brought Reneé and I back together in a sense. We remarried shortly after, the both of us becoming close once again due to the mourning of our only d-daughter." He choked on the last word, doing everything in his power to not let his emotions overtake him as he poured this all out on the table.

Charlie was a very reserved man, that much was obvious, so he was never very talkative, nor open about things. However, he had been carrying this weight on his shoulders for so long, that it actually felt nice to talk about it for once, even if it was just with two random teenagers.

"As for the rest of her family, there aren't many of them in the first place. My mother was her only living grandparent at the time, and they weren't very close to begin with." He sighed. "Bella was a very big introvert, so she didn't have many friends either. I'm sure she would've made some here, given more t-time." He took a deep breath to steady himself, Aris and Edward waiting patiently.

"Take your time." Aris nodded comfortingly.

"The only friends she really had were the Black family, and even then, it was more when she was younger." He continued. "They were all upset over it of course, but I think Jacob and Billy took it the hardest. Jacob had always thought very fondly of Bella, though they weren't extremely close, and Billy thought of her as a second daughter." His voice was hollow, his eyes looking distant as he thought back. "And I guess, as for the town itself, everyone was in shock for a bit, sending their condolences our way, but life went back to normal for most of them shortly after. It's not like it was a murder or anything, so not much panic or gossip could come from it."

Edward's lips pressed into a frown, which only Aris could understand was shame and guilt.

"Thank you so much for your time Chief Swan, I can't imagine how hard it must have been to talk about this." Aris smiled solemnly, standing up along with Edward.

"Ah, don't worry about it. It was nice to get this off of my chest, and I guess saying it to a couple of teenagers that I'll never see again is a good way to go about it." He confessed, opening the door for them. "Where are you kids from again?"

"Alaska, sir." Edward stated, sending Aris a look, letting her know that it was fine to be honest about this.

"And you're interested in a simple car accident that happened thirty years ago, in a city that's practically in the middle of nowhere?" Charlie asked suspiciously.

"Yes sir." Aris nodded, meeting his suspicious stare.

After a few silent moments, neither Edward nor Aris bothering to elaborate any further, Charlie sighed, bringing his hand to his forehead.

"Kids are gettin' weirder and weirder these days." He mumbled, heading back into his office and shutting the door behind himself.

Aris let out a heavy sigh of relief, both her and Edward making their way towards the entrance of the station, and out the doors quickly. They both entered the car, neither of them speaking until Edward had put the key into the ignition.

"Holy fuck that was stressful." Aris chuckled, leaning her head against the window and letting out another heavy sigh of relief.

Upon receiving no response, she turned towards Edward, watching his face for any clue as to what was going on inside his head.
