"I love you!"
Sonia squealed, the gaming controller clasped in her hands, her face a beam of sunlight.
In my head, I took a screenshot of the moment. Of her incredible,amazing,beautiful girlfriend; her golden sunflower-petal hair, curled in plumes, her velvet skin, her glossy nails and fine hands, her pastel olive eyes. I force them to keep open, trying to keep them open, but it is only a fading memory and reality swings in like a hammer. The picture is replaced by Sonia, dead in the warehouse. I hits me like a crashing wave on rocks.

I will never see Sonia again.

I'm outside Sonia's house. I take a deep breath, the biting cold stinging my lungs, and exhale, watching the breath waft out into the nights sky. It's so cold my tears almost crystallise on my face. My hand shakes as I prepare to pull open the door, I prepare to not see her again. I prepare for an empty room- but when I open the door and stare into the empty darkness, I start sobbing.
Her room is immaculate, with the flowers I gave her in a vase beside her bed, a pink blanket over the empty bed. With shuddering hands I stroke the blanket, my tears soaking the fabric. It smells just like her, like tangerine  ice cream and peaches and cream, and I wrap it around myself, pretending it's her, pretending she's still here. The world starts to fade away like I've just opened a save file, just how I like it. Despair opens its arms but I can't fall back into it- I have to stay hopeful, I have to for Sonia. I will find the accomplice, whatever it takes. Because-

"I love you."
