Ashley immediately rushed into the room that she was to share with the four other girls for the weekend. On looking around, she saw them sitting around, talking.
"Hey, Ash," Haley, who'd noticed Ashley standing there first, grinned. "Had a nice time talking to Romeo out there?" she asked with a wink.
"Wha— I— I'm not sure what you're talking about," Ashley stammered. She was really embarassed of the way she'd stumbled a few moments back, and was very much aware of her heart, which was beating like crazy, and the fact that she was beet red.
Gabriella laughed. "Haley meant to ask you, did you have a nice time with Zac out there?"
Ashley rolled her eyes as she overcame her embarrassment. "We didn't talk much," she pointed out. "We just— wait, Why did you call him Romeo?"
"That's because you two are 'oh-so-in-love-with-each-other-and-so-not-ready-to-admit-it'," Jade replied immediately.
"There's nothing of that sort," Ashley protested. "Believe me."
"Then how come you're all red?" Haley teased. "Did he give you his famous, 'charming' smile?" he asked, using air quotes.
Ashley gaped at her. "What?"
Victoria tutted impatiently. "Just tell us if you've a thing for him."
"Hey!" Ashley protested as she turned to glare at the blonde. "Zac and I are just friends, and I don't have a thing for him!"
"Sure," Victoria drawled. "You don't have a thing for Zac, and Gab and Sean are just friends," she said sarcastically.
"I'm serious," Ashley said hotly. "Believe me."
Jade laughed. "You seem to be confused. How about a small question and answer session, to help you figure out things?"
"Okay?" Ashley raised her eyebrows as her reply came out, more like a question.
"So, how'd you feel on the merry-go-round with my brother standing so close, right behind you?" Haley asked.
"Uh, I—" Ashley began but was interrupted by Jade.
"Happy? Excited? Uncomfortable? Shy? Awkward?"
"Scared," Ashley muttered. "I don't like merry-go-rounds."
"So he kinda held on to you so that you don't . . . fall off?" Gabriella asked as she wondered since when had Zac turned into such a softie.
"Yeah," Ashley shrugged. "Why are we doing this right now? Aren't y'all exhausted?" she asked.
"It was so cute, what he did back there," Jade, being the die-hard romantic she was, squealed as she ignored Ashley's question. "It was just the perfect scene. A girl and a guy, who look amazing together, on a swing. The guy with his arms around the girl, holding her from behind because she's scared . . ." she rambled dreamily. "It's so cute," she sighed. "I think Zac's into you. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's into you."
"He's not," Ashley said as she felt her face go warm.
"He's into you," Victoria drawled. "You're into him, too," she teased.
Ashley shrugged. "It's not like you'd believe me if I say something about this . . ."
"So, what d'you think of his looks?" Victoria asked. "How much would you rate his looks, out of ten?"
