"Where do you think you're going?" Mom asked with a big smirk on her face.

I chose to ignore her and walked out through the front door.

I didn't have to get on my motorbike, and start it to see why she had that smirk planted on her face. My tires had cuts in. It was obvious that she and her bastard of a husband did this.

"Where do you think you're going?! " She asked again, stepping onto the porch and laughing hysterically.

I huffed in frustration, shoving my keys back down the front pocket of my black joggers and walking out of the driveway and onto the street.

"Hey!" She yelled from behind me as she ran after me. "Ro!"

I walked faster.

"Shit!" She cursed as she fell to the ground making me stop and turn around. Of course she ran after me barefoot. I ran back and rushed to her side.

"You okay mommy?" I asked, checking for any scratches on her feet and ankles.

She just looked down at the ground for a while then looked up at me slowly and smiled slyly. Fuck. I fell for it. She grabbed me by my hair and stood up, pulling me up along with her.

"When I talk to you, you listen! When I ask something, you answer! When I ask Jake to cut and make holes in your tires, you don't go anywhere!" With every word she screamed, her grip on my hair becoming stronger.

"You're hurting me! Please stop!" I begged her.

She grabbed on tighter and swung me onto the pavement, making me fall face first. I felt a rush of heat appearing on my face and a dull sting on my forehead. I struggled to turn around and face her but I eventually managed to.

She must have seen the blood which was now running down my face because her eyes were big and her mouth hung open. She gasped in shock.

"I'm so-" She tried to speak.

"It's okay." I interrupted her, laying back to rest my head down onto the pavement.

She gulped then ran away, back to the house, leaving me stranded.

I took a long deep breath and stood up before walking. I needed to see Angel. The city was a long way from here but I had to get to her place. I needed to.

"Papi stop stressing! I told you those boys will never bother me again, they hadn't even looked in my direction all week, not even once!" I assured him.

"Bet they too scared, nobody messes with my daughter!" Papi exclaimed proudly, tickling me around my sides, making me laugh.

Suddenly his phone chimed on the coffee table destroying the whole moment.

"Sorry sweetie, I have to take this." He apologized, standing up from the sofa,  and grabbing the phone before walking away.

I sighed and played with the ruffles on my bright pink dress.

"Good morning birthday girl!" Jorge, my older half brother greeted excitedly as he walked into the living room with nothing but his boxers on.

"Firstly it's already one in the noon, secondly my birthday is only next week and thirdly-"

"Mom made waffles?" He interrupted me.

"No, but-"

"Omelets?" He interrupted me again.

I started to get hot in the face. He was aggravating me and he enjoyed it. I opened my mouth to yell at him when Papi walks back in.

"Morning dad." Jorge greeted him, then looks at me with a grin on his face.

Okay that's it! I stood up and grabbed one of the sofa's pillows before chasing him with it through the house.

"Im so giving you a wedgie!" I screamed, laughing mischievously.

"Dad, Nina's losing it again!" He yelled in fear as he ran to hide behind papi's back.

He just chuckled, grabbing the pillow from me and hitting both Jorge and I on the head softly. "Kids you have to get ready if you're going to go watch that Sunday movie with your mom." He told us.

"I'm not going to watch no movie, I'm going to check them girls out!" Jorge declared boldly.

"Go dream in the shower son." Mom joked sarcastically as she walked in from behind Jorge and patted him on the shoulder.

"Sure thing mom." He assured her, running to the bathroom.

Papi's phone pinged with a notification, making him jump up. "I have to go." He said bluntly before pecking mom on the cheek.

"What about the movie?" I asked, grabbing his arm.

"Mom will take you." He replied impatiently.

"No papi, please don't leave me." I nagged.

He sighed and smiled. "I'm not leaving you sweet Nina. I never will."

"Take me along with you then." I continued nagging.

"To a meeting? Sweetie I don't thi-"

"I'll wait in the car. I won't complain. I promise." I interrupted him making him hesitate for a moment but I give him my puppy eyes and he falls for them just as always.

"Fine!" He finally gave in.

I was exhausted. I hadn't eaten properly all weekend and my head hurt. I had no money on me to hail for a taxi either. My legs were wobbly. I was weak but fuck it, I thought to myself. I was so close to the busy city. Only a miracle could save me now. Fuck that too, miracles aren't real. I took a deep breath and lean onto a pole for support. I just needed to rest for a minute.

"Papi stop the car!"

I opened my eyes slowly at the screeching voice.

Papi? I looked around to where the squeaky voice came from and see a familiar face smiling at me through a car's window. The car stops beside me and the girl jumps out, walking towards me.

"Hey, are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm good thanks." I said blankly, looking away.

"No you're not. You're hurt."

"Just leave me alone. I'm fine." I said coldly, still not making any eye contact.

I hated when people saw me vulnerable.

"Do you know this girl Nina?" A man in the driver's seat asked as he climbed out of the car and walked up to us.

Papi?

I met his eyes and froze.
