"H-hey Dad...what's up?" Y/n asked, trying to ignore the manilla folder sitting in front of her.

"What's up? WHAT'S UP?!" Robert shouted and Y/n flinched as he pointed an accusing finger at her. "You have been working on the Butler case behind my back after I explicitly told you not to!" He shouted and Y/n held her hands up in surrender.

"Monica called me! I couldn't turn her down!" She shouted but Robert only rolled his eyes, "Have you ever been to see her at all? She's completely torn up."

"We have one rule here, Y/n, you broke that rule like it was nothing. And you," Robert turned to Tom. "You lied to me," He said and Tom was about to speak when Y/n interrupted him.

"I told him to lie, Dad. He told me the same thing that you have. I don't care if I break the one stupid rule, I can win this case," Y/n said but Robert shook his head.

"I'm placing you on probation," He said and Y/n's eyes widened.

"What?! You can't do that!" Y/n shouted and Robert gave her a stern look.

"I am your boss. You will listen to what I tell you to do. You are not to so much as even look at casework. Am I understood?" He asked, his voice low and threatening. Y/n sighed, looking down at her desk.

"Yes, sir," She whispered. Robert nodded, giving Tom a glare as he made his way out of Y/n's office.

The door closed behind him, Tom and Y/n sat in silence. The clock ticking on the wall was the only sound that could be heard.

Y/n's POV

Fuck fuck fuck. How did he fucking find out that I was working the case? My thoughts consumed me and I looked up at Tom, he had a blank expression on his face as he stared at the manilla folder.

"How did he find out?" I asked but Tom didn't respond. He reached towards the folder and opened it, his eyes scanning the papers before looking up at me.

"My office was broken into this morning. I thought nothing was stolen," He said and my breath hitched in my throat.

"Why would someone be looking for that folder?" I asked but he only shrugged.

"Nothing was taken from the folder, all of the information is still here," Tom whispered and I closed my eyes, wanting this day to be over.

"We are fucking detectives, why can't we figure this out?" I groaned slamming my head down on my desk.

"Well...do you have any enemies?" Tom asked and I looked up.

"No one that I can really consider enemies. I know people don't like me but I don't know how they could get in the building," I whispered.

"Well then it must be someone that works here then," Tom said and I was about to respond when my door opened again and Juliet walked in.

"Hey, Tom! Y/n..." She said and sat down next to Tom. He looked mildly uncomfortable and moved around in his chair so that he was leaning away from her.

"Hey, Julie," I said, leaning back in the chair.

"So, how's the Butler case going?" She asked and I sighed.

"Robert banned me from working on it," I said and waited for her reaction, but got none.

"Oh, so it's just me and Tom working on it now?" She asked and I slowly nodded.

"Yeah, I guess so," I said and she nodded.

"Well," She said standing up, "I'm going to go and get ready for the second questioning," She said in an overly cheery tone.
