(Important example of something in this chapter above)

I had been sitting on the beach for a while now. It was extremely peaceful and calming. The water brushing up onto the cool sand, making a sound that filled the air. I had no idea where anybody was or what they were doing, but I didn't care. If they wanted me they could come get me. I moved over to a rock that was just out of the water, but still got splashed by incoming waves. I layed back and looked up at the stars, thinking back to the lodge. I had been so useless back then. I could have used my little abilities to help save my friends, but no, I just had to be a wimp. Aaron had risked his secret, heck, his own life to save Aphmau. All I did was sit and watch behind green lit eyes. Ein was never found, but Aaron had said he left him to die, so we assumed he did. Now, here on starlight, I promise to help in any situation, no matter what. I'm not going to let anybody hurt my friends, my family. Sitting back up, I saw a fin sticking out of the water. I'm not telling Aphmau about that. I thought, seeing as she was just starting to get the hang of swimming. The fin moved around a bit before diving back into the water. I was getting really tired, but didn't want to give up on my little 'stay until they get me' act. So I cuddled up into my jacket and waited. (Garroth POV) We had been watching "The Greatest Showman" for a while now. I could occasionally hear the parents do that thing where they all laugh at once. Zane didn't join us. I don't know why, but he loves that movie. Although we did get into that fight. I hope I didn't upset him too much. I just wanted to know what had happened so I could help him. Ever since the lodge, I've been trying to be a better big brother, especially to Zane. Zane's not one to talk about his feelings, which isn't healthy. I don't know if he just doesn't trust anyone enough, or if he finds it as weak, but It's not weak. I do it, Katelyn does it, even Aaron does it, and he is NOT weak. Aphmau has been working on him getting more open for a while and it's worked, well, from what I've seen. I know Zane and my father never really go along, I don't know why. Zane clams I'm the favorite with my dad, and I can't fully disagree. Anyway, The movie finished and Aaron turned off the TV. "That's a good movie!" Kim says. "Yeah, this wasn't my first time seeing it though." Lucinda responds, most of us agreeing with her. "Well it was mine." Aphmau says. "Was it good?" Aaron asks, looking down at the potato girl that sat in his lap. "Hehe, Yeah! I liked the trapeze girl!" Aphmau said, moving her arms around as if they were flipping. "Well we should probably be heading to bed." Aaron says. "There goes Aaron, being the party pooper he is!" Mellisa teases her younger brother, yawning right after. "You can call me a party pooper, but you just proved my point." Aaron shot back. Aah, sibling rivalry, my old friend. I've got two younger brothers, don't blame me. "I am tired." Lucinda says. "Of course YOU'RE tired." Aphmau says, joking about how Lucinda sleeps a lot. "Hey, I got to get my beauty sleep." Lucinda said, flipping her hair. "More like beauty hibernation." I say, wanting to join in the fight. Lucinda punches me in the arm. "Haha, very funny, Mr. Perfect Hair Brother." Lucinda says, reminding me that Zane wasn't with us. "Speaking of brother, where is Zane?" I ask, hoping someone has an idea. "No, I haven't." Aphmau said, making me worry more. ALSO, ever since the lodge, I've been more over protective about Zane. I don't really want him out of my sight, but I can't do that. He has his own life that he's allowed to live...As long as I know he's safe. I got up, along with Aphmau, and started to search around. "Wait, didn't he tell you where he was?" Lucinda asked Aphmau. "Did he? I was too distracted by setting up the movie." Aphmau said. "Wow, that's a first in a while. Aphmau not listening to Zane." Mellisa said. Aphmau turned to her with a worried, sad face. "No! I listened, I just didn't remember!" She said, raising her voice. "I didn't mean it like that, Aphmau. Sorry." Mellisa said. Aphmau, I'm guessing getting more worried, started looking around, running upstairs. "It's late, he wouldn't go far if he went outside, right?" I stated more than asked. "Garroth, calm down. Zane is smart, he's not gonna get hurt." Aaron said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "I know, but.." Aphmau came running down the stairs. "He's not upstairs. I'll check the beach." She said. "I'll check the back rooms." I say, walking away. (Zane POV) *flashback* "Zane, get down here!" My fathers voice boomed. Garroth, Vylad, and my mom had just left the house to go shopping. I slowly creeped out of my room and down the stairs, knowing what my father was angry about. I had gotten into a fight with a kid at school, like, a fight-fight. When I got down stairs, my father was standing in the living room. "Zane, Garroth has told me that he caught you fighting." Stupid Garroth! " Yes, Father." I say walking into the living room with my head down. "You know you shouldn't even be talking to anybody without instruction." He said. "Yes, Father." I say again, this time looking up so that I could only see the bottom half of his face. "Do you know how bad you could have hurt the kid." He says. This angered me. Yes, I am the one with magical powers, but this 'kid' was huge compared to me. "It's not like I was going to purposely hurt him." I say, defending myself. "And you didn't 'purposely' mean to burn Vylad, but you did." I shot my eyes up at my dad, furrowed eyebrows. When I was in middle school, Vylad and I were cooking with my mom. I went to hand something to Vylad, and a jolt struck. I burnt Vylad, no too bad, but definitely burnt. We told Vylad that the thing I was handing him was hot, and that's why he got burnt. My father knows I still blame myself to this day for that. "Zane, Garroth has also told me that you have been trying to get into a club. Shadowknights..?" My father says, scaring me. "I- um..Yes" I say, responding honestly. "Zane, if you can not stay out of trouble, I will take you out of school." My father states. "But this is the first trouble I've gotten into!" I yell, referring to the fight. "Yes, but you know my rules, no speaking, no clubs, NO friends." *end flashback* Ha, well I broke all those rules. I think to myself, proud of it. "ZANE!" I hear Aphmau's voice call. Hopping off my rock, I walked over to where the house could see me. "Zane!" Aphmau says, running over and hugging me. "Oh, you scared us." She says, pulling away. "What do you mean, I've been over there this whole time. I told you." I say, moving my arms around. "Hehe, well if you think I'm worried, you should see Garroth." She says, looking up at me due to the high difference. "Oh, no" Rolling my eyes, which made Aphmau laugh. "Come on, you don't want to keep your brother worried." I make a face that makes me look like I'm considering the option. "Zane!" Aphmau says, crossing her arms. "Fine, I'm coming." I say. Aphmau and I walk into the house. "Ayy, you found him." Mellisa says. "Ah, the dark lord himself." Lucinda says. "Jeez, you guys act like I was missing." I say, joking. "Well you were...For like 15 minutes." Lucinda states. "Actually I was gone for....Two hours." I say, pausing to look at the clock. "You were out there for two hours and we didn't notice?" Aaron questions, looking impressed. "The power of being forgotten." I say, joking again. "Zane, you are not forgotten!" Aphmau says. "Yeah, I know. Now, I'm gonna go find Garroth." I say, walking out of the room. I walk over to where Garroth and I sleep, running into the blond headed boy himself. "Zane!" He says after seeing me. "That's me." I say. He walks over and hugs me. "Ah! No! No hug!" I say, still not liking hugs. "Well it's you, alright." Garroth says, laughing. "Yeah, yeah. Now, I'm tired." I say, walking passed him. I walk into the bathroom, getting my toothbrush and toothpaste. After I finish brushing my teeth, I walk back into the bedroom, grabbing pajamas. As I was taking off my shirt, I felt a sharp pain in my upper arm. Looking at it, I see a deep bloody wound. I must have had a jolt. I think, wincing at the pain. "How in the world did you hurt yourself in the three minutes I was gone." I hear Garroth's voice say from the door. I look up to see Garroth walking over to me. "I, um, bumped into the dresser." I say, coming up with a believable lie. "Zane, did you, like, JUMP into the dresser, or what?" Garroth says. I will say, the cut does look a bit too deep to have bumped into a piece of wood. "You know what, that doesn't matter. Come on, let's go clean the cut." Garroth says. "Wait, can I put my shirt on first?" I ask while Garroth drags me over to the bathroom I had just retreated out of. "If you put a shirt on, we can't clean the cut. Besides, I'm your brother, don't tell me you're embarrassed by me seeing you without a shirt." I look over to the side as Garroth sits me down on the closed toilet seat. "Well, I just don't like being shirtless in front of people in the first place." I say, defending myself. "Well, too bad." Garroth grabbed some alcohol wipes from the cabinet. "Garroth, I can clean it on my own." I say. "Nope, I'm gonna help." Garroth responds. Well, that's final. When Garroth says he's going to help somebody, even more so if it's Vylad or me, he is going to help them. As Garroth goes to put the alcohol wipe on my cut, my shoulder constantly moves away. Even though this action happened, Garroth still successfully wipes the cut. "NNNG" I groan as the stinging sensation starts. "Sorry, baby bro." Garroth says, grabbing on to my lower arm, holding it still. Both his hand and the wipe were extremely cold on my skin. Out of reaction, I could feel my skin warming itself up. A perk to having power. Garroth noticed the change in my temperature too. "Are you sick?" He asks, taking a break from wiping the cut. He puts his hand on my forehead, which, due to me not being able to control my little self-heating system, was hot. Garroth pulled back his hand. "Jeez, you ARE hot." He says. WHY!? Why do I keep getting myself in these situations? "Wow, thanks for the compliment." I say, trying to play it off. Garroth gave me an unimpressed look. "Dude, seriously, you're burning up." Garroth says. "Garroth, just finish cleaning this thing, if you are going to. Then we can get to bed." I say. But, being Garroth, he kept pushing. "Zane, do you feel sick at all?" He asks. "No, Garroth. Now, come on." Garroth looks at me like he's thinking about something. "Things with you have been...off." Are you ok?" Garroth asks. I know I can't get him off my tail without telling him something. You see, I can make my body do things, like the self-heating thing. I can also make myself sick. "I'm fine, Garroth. Just a little light headed." I lie, making my body heat up more. "So sick." Garroth says, crossing his arms. "If you call it that, sure." I say. "Now, finish cleaning this cut." I grab the alcohol wipes and hand them to him. "Fine, but you're taking medicine after this." Garroth says. Well it's not healthy to take medicine if it's not needed, but I'll be fine. After Garroth finishes cleaning the cut and makes me take the medicine, we head to bed. "Wake me up if you need anything." Garroth says. "Garroth, I'm not a child." I say, annoyed how Garroth is acting like I am one. "Yeah, well, everybody should have the option of help." Garroth says with a smile, turning over and pulling the covers up. I do the same. Well I guess I'm 'sick' now. I'll just play it off like I'm better tomorrow. I think to myself, before slowly drifting off.
