I don’t think there was anything
special about you
I mean you were handsome
But so were the other men around you
You did have a charming way of talking
But so did my previous lovers.
There weren’t any grand moments
I mean we never wrote love letters
Or celebrate anniversaries
You never got me flowers
Or went on late-night walks.
I mean I did enjoy your company
But that is all it was
We were only filling each other’s emptiness.
Why was I with you then?
I was seeking someone to
grab me as I fell
And you caught me first.
What will I remember about you
When years have gone, distance has grown?
Nothing, probably…
You’ll be another stranger, I knew once.
