Jaemin couldn't take it anymore. Seeing his best friend breaking pencils from his table as he avoided Chaerin's presence. Haechan was hurting and Jaemin could feel it. For days, Haechan avoided meet ups and hangouts with his friends just to go and swim in the school pool. Jaemin knew Haechan only tends to do that when he was angry as well.
With an exasperated sigh, he sat up from his chair and haechan didn't even notice....until he sat beside Chaerin.
"What game are you playing?" He asked, silently making sure not to drag any attention to him and Chaerin.
"What?" She asked, not giving him her full attention as she was caught up with her own thoughts.
"What do you think you're trying to do by toying with haechan's feelings. Does it make you feel good to know that he likes you to the point where you have to abuse that? I've never seen like this before...if I find out that you're doing this for whatever fucking reason I will pluck your eyelashes out one by one-"
"I'm sorry" she breathed out, continuing to stare straight ahead of her, avoiding his piercingly strict gaze
"What exactly are you apologising for? Because I have a list-"
"Everything" she said, finally turning to look at him and he froze. She looked terrified, broken, upset and hopeless. He had never been this close to her to even see this side of her. Before he could ask if she was okay she turned her head back to the front
"Is that all?" She asked with a sigh and he didn't know what to say, or whether he should even say anything. Without anything else, he went back to his seat.
"What did you say to her?" Haechan asked and jaemin sighed
"Nothing" he said and haechan scoffed
"Well....what did she say to you then?" He asked
"Nothing" jaemin answered again
"Dude i literally saw you two talk-"
"Don't worry about it" jaemin said and before haechan could press on, the test had begun.

"I already told you! It was copernicus!" Chaerin said with a slight chuckle as she watch Mark get one of the answers on his flashcards wrong.
"Okay smart ass, who made the periodic table?"
"Mendeleev"
"Okay, what year did Columbus set sa-"
"Hey!" Soyeon's bright voice interrupted the quiz match between Chaerin and Mark and she looked up to see her best friend and Haechan behind her. The smile she once wore now slowly fading as she noticed Haechan was here.
"I hope you don't mind, I asked Haechan to join for study as well since we all have the chem exam tomorrow" Soyeon said pulling out a chair opposite to Chaerin and Haechan reluctantly sat opposite to Mark, beside Soyeon.
"No....not a problem" Mark answered for Chaerin as she found herself at a loss for words.
"well i'm starving, i'm gonna get some food, you guys want anything?" Soyeon asked
"i'll go grab some coffee with you" mark said, taking his wallet from his bag before standing up
"will i get you something? you shouldn't be taking those antibiotics on an empty stomach" mark asked but chaerin shook her head
"i had some food after class so i'm okay" chaerin said wwith a smile that soon turned into a straight line as mark turned his back to her, and this didn't go unnoticed by haechan
"you didn't have food after class" haechan said making chaerin look up at his stern eyes
"what?" she asked
"go get some food, i know you didn't eat. you went straight to the principal's office after class" he said eyeing her and she eyed him back.
"i'm fine" she said making him sigh
"so...what?....we just act like we don't know each other anymore?" he asked
"yeah....it's better that way" she said and he scoffed
"better for who exactly?" haechan asked and she sighed
"if you love me....like you said you did atleast, just do me one more favour and just hate me. even if you don't just act like you do" she said
"why would i do-"
"the vanilla latte here is so good" Soyeon said, taking her seat back at the table making Haechan go silent
"here, i got you a sandwich just incase. you should probably take those pills now" mark said joining the table as he looked at his watch
"aww mark you're so sweet. the perfect couple is back in school" Soyeon said making mark chuckle and scratch the back of his neck nervously.
"yeah...we're not a-"
"here chaerin, have some water" soyeon said with a bright smile giving her a water bottle and chaerin took out a full tub of pills from her bag
"are you sure you're taking these regularly?" mark asked raising an eyebrow
"y-yeah" chaerin said, haechan could already sense how uncomfortable she was with all the attention, the other two simply couldn't tell. even though they knew her longer, they didn't know her like he did.
"so i don't really understand the hybridization concept" he piped up, making Soyeon's attention turn to him immediately and mark eventually sat back down in his seat and began studying.
unknown number: make sure haechan understands that you're interested in mark now
"everything okay?" Mark asked as he tried to get a peek into what she was staring at intensely
"uh...yeah i just...it's just my mom" she said, placing her phone faced down. looking up she saw soyeon busy with homework, haechan side eyeing her as he typed onto his laptop.
"mark...i don't get this part" she said, getting his attention and he turned towards her
"organic chem? i thought you were good at that" mark said with a chuckle as he took her workbook and looked at the question she half started.
"okay so just...use the empirical formula and it shoud give you..." mark's voice slowly drifted off as Chaerin had placed one of her hands on top of his. he turned to her and raised an eyebrow
"nevermind, i think i got it now" she said with a small smile, inching closer to him and slowly taking the pencil from his grip to finish the calculation, making her body be closer to him than usual as her hand remained on his.
"did i get it right?" she asked, looking up at him and he looked down at her, jaw slightly dropped as he saw her face so close to his.
"y-...yeah i..yeah" mark stuttered, he was flustered.
"haechan where are you going?" Soyeon asked as haechan stoof up while packing things into his bag
"i kind of feel like im third wheeling here" he said with a glare as he looked at Chaerin who was now leaning onto mark's side
"yeah me too, you guys have fun. i'll go study with haechan at the library or something" Soyeon said, getting up from her seat as well and leaving the cafe with haechan.
"what was that?" mark asked, once they had been left alone
"what was what?" she asked, acting as if she didn't know what he was talking about
"what was with you holding my hand....i thought you were the one that wanted to be friends and....friends don't do this chae" mark said with a slight chuckle, not being able to express what he was really feeling
"...i changed my mind"
