Here she is.
Lying on the hospital bed, with some petals around her that she threw up in the morning.
Her throat hurt and she was struggling to breathe. She refused to have the operation, not wanting to forget her love and all the small, brief moments she had with him.
The first time he spoke to her, the first time he touched her.
She didn't want to forget the smile he gave when she gave him his favorite snack.
Or that time when he took her home 'cause it was night.
It was these small, simple gestures that made her fall in love with him.
But things don't always go our way.
She couldn't forget, unfortunately, when she saw him with another girl. She was jealous of how she had managed to make him laugh.
Of how that stranger touched him without turning red.
And from there, she started having severe pain in the left side of her chest.
Not only that, after these pains, she would throw up petals. Flower petals.
It was HanahakiDisease.
The victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings, or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear.
The symptoms of the disease are summarized to strong pain, having flowers blooming in the heart and lungs, and then throwing them up.
As mentioned before, she refused to do the operation and preferred to have those unbearable pains rather than give up her love for him.
Even though she knew he didn't love her back.
On the other hand, Mikey, her beloved, wondered why she didn't come to school anymore.
But after he asked a few of her classmates, he found out that she was in the hospital with the famous Hanahaki disease.
At first he didn't think he was the cause of her problems and that she loved someone else.
The first thing that came to his mind was to beat up the damn lucky guy who didn't reciprocate her feelings.
But he couldn't, he didn't know who that person was.
« Go and visit her» suggested Takashi as he sat next to Draken.
« Doesn't sh-» he doesn't finish 'cause he's stopped by Draken who wraps an arm around his shoulders.
« If your heart tells you to go to her, do it. If not you will end up like her» he says jokingly.
Mikey, stayed thinking about it: what did he really want to do? Maybe he could have some chance.
He was confused. He didn't think Y/n loved someone else after those moments they had.
She can't.
He finally decided to have a conversation with her and, if he had the chance, declare his feelings to her.
« Don't buy flowers, she will be tired of seeing petals» says Emma when she entered his room.
Manjiro wasn't wearing his usual Toman uniform, he dressed decently and was ready to face anything.
« He's preparing as if he's going to war» his sister jokes with their grandfather who chuckled.
On the way he bought a few snacks and made sure he got something for the sick girl as well.
« Can I come in?» he asks after knocking on the white bedroom door.
In response she received a weak yes and as soon as her eyes looked inside, they saw red petals almost all over the room.
When Y/n saw him she tried to sit up and he wasted no time getting to her and helping her.
Manjiro had a bag in his hand and gave it to the girl who was looking at him confused.
« It wasn't smart to bring you more flowers, so I bought you this. Look» he said making a gesture with his head, ordering her to open the bag.
Her eyes widened when she saw a stuffed animal. It was a teddy bear holding a heart that said, "I love you".
She was speechless, much less had any idea why he gave her that gift.
« I don't know who you love, but know that if I had been the lucky one you would have been a queen» he says as he looks her straight in the eye.
She couldn't feel it anymore. That pain. That unbearable pain.
He loves her.
« The lucky one is you» she said in a low voice.
« So you love me?» he asked her surprised.
A smile appeared on Mikey's face and he hugged her and held her close.
« Sorry»
He was crying for joy, but at the same time he felt bad for everything she had to go through because of him.
« Don't worry, it's alright» she says as she runs her hand through the boy's blonde hair.
« I love you so much»
« I love you too»
