A/N: Shorter chap cause the next one is long yay
~Three Weeks Later~
FUCK FINALS
One thing that every college student collectively hates: finals. They're the dumbest thing in the world, and all yours are scheduled throughout next week. One week to study, that's it. Jimin's taking one today, the other four he has are next week pretty much the same time as yours.
Jimin's been reading that same stupid ass art textbook for the past two hours, eyes wide in panic as he memorizes every word. This poor boy might die from the stress if he isn't careful. The two of you are sitting in the library, you got him and you some smoothies (yours strawberry of course), but he only mumbled a 'thanks' and went right back to reading.
He's taking this harder than you are. Maybe because he's used to being a top student, or maybe because he's a sophomore so he knows how hard they are. Maybe that's why you're not as stressed as him. You're stressed as fuck, but not like 'oh my God I might die' stressed. You worry about him - he hasn't taken a break in two hours. He might get eye strain from that.
You look at him, the boy taking a sip from his smoothie before placing it down and leaning even closer to the textbook. "Min," you softly say, keeping your voice down since the library's so busy this time of year. When he doesn't answer, clearly too engrossed in the book, you sigh. "Chim," you say, a little louder. Again - no answer. You sigh, popping a piece of mint gum inside your mouth, chewing it as quietly as possible before placing your hand on the top of his book to finally get his attention. He looks up in alarm, "sorry am I mumbling to myself again?" This boy, what are you gonna do with him? "Why don't you try another method of studying rather than reading? That way it'll stick in your head more," you offer.
He raises a brow, "what do you suggest?" "Well, you and Tae made flashcards together, right?" Tae's a prospective acting student, so he also has to take the art history class Jimin has. They don't have it together, Tae has it at a different time, but it's still the same subject material.
"Okay, what about them?" You close your biology book, placing it in your messenger bag before looking at him. "I hear that if you spend too much time in one place, it'll clog your memory. So why don't we try walking down the nature preserve. Get some fresh air. I'll take your flashcards and quiz you while we're walking. Try something different." You know for a fact that he won't stop studying, but he needs to at least stretch, especially considering that he broke his leg a few months ago. He needs to keep it healthy.
"I don't see why not," he replies with a shrug. He reluctantly closes the book, you taking it from him and slipping it into your bag. "Stealing my book?" he teases, although there's still a hint of nervousness in his tone. You softly smile, "it'll be good for your health too. You don't want to get eyestrain and a headache in the middle of your final. What, you have an hour?" He nods. "Then we'll be quick. Come with me babe, take your smoothie or I'm taking you out."
He gulps, nodding rapidly before obeying. The two of you quickly leave the library, navigating down campus to the nature preserve. There's a few students sitting in the grass, textbooks open on their laps. "See? We're not the only ones. Now let's look at these flashcards. Oh - and here." You pull gum out of your pocket, handing a piece to him. "Ew I don't like mint gum." "Take it, you'll thank me later." He raises a brow, "huh?" "What, you've never heard the gum trick?" "There's a gum trick?" he asks. "I learned it in psych last year. If you're chewing gum while studying, then chew that same flavor of gum during your tests, it'll enhance your memory."
He looks at you, you looking back while preparing the flashcards. "Is that actually a thing or a myth?" You chuckle, "it's real. There's a scientific reason too. Happens in the hippocampus, right in the brain using neural connections. Your senses make the neurons express signals that go back to the same part of the brain as before, where the memory is stored. Say you chew this gum now, when you chew it again, the flavor reminds you of a specific memory. Neural connections."
