The girl waited and waited, continuously looking to the door.
What was taking him that long?
Jungwon has been outside with Ara for a while now, leaving Eunji behind with worry and fear.

Right when she was about to give up from being too tired, someone knocked on the door loudly, shaking her awake almost immediately.
To her luck, the door revealed no one other than the boy Eunji had been waiting for and she couldn't help but feel her own heartbeat increasing the moment he entered the room.

Jungwon didn't answer at first slowly approaching her, while her fear grew bigger with each step he took towards her.

Did he listen to the whole conversation she had with Ara or not?

Still not uttering a single word, Jungwon now stood in front of Eunji, while her breath hitched.
He was getting closer and closer, that Eunji couldn't help but turn away from him, avoiding his intense eye contact like she always did.

"Jungwon? You okay?", Eunji felt her blush deepen, as she laughed awkwardly. She looked everywhere except for him, "Is there something wrong with my face-"

"Look at me." The boy now put his hand underneath the girl's chin, making her face him again, "Please, look at me."

"What's wrong?" Eunji repeated, her breath hitched. He was so close, that it was impossible for her to avoid his eye contact this time, "Why are you acting like this?"

Something about him was different, Eunji noticed this herself. It wasn't just his voice or his behaviour.
Somehow the look in his eyes screamed confusion and concern.

Something happened outside that door, when he was with Ara.

Eunji shook her head.
Did Ara say something to him?

"She hurt you, didn't she?" Jungwon scoffed, his teeth now tightly gritted. His eyes turned dark just like earlier when he talked to Ara. Eunji's eyes widened.

"Huh...?" The girl tried to laugh it off, but was quickly interrupted by Jungwon's hand gently and slowly tracing over her face. Over the same spot where Ara had slapped her earlier.

Was the slap visible? The girl felt panic coming up, as she immediately tried to cover her face unnaturally with her other hand.

"Your face. It's red." He shortly answered and took ahold of Eunji's wrist, stopping her from covering her own face any longer, "What did Ara do to you?"

Eunji was unable to answer and just turned away in shame. She felt vulnerable, exposed. She didn't want him to see her like this.

"She...did this to you after I left the room, am I right?" He laughed bitterly to himself, looking down, "I thought I managed to stop her from hurting you, but it turns out she already had hurt you earlier, when I hadn't barged in yet."

"You were...listening to our conversation?"

"I should have. I should have listened to the whole conversation, but I only heard the end after I peeked inside the room, because it was taking so long." Jungwon's voice trailed off, before he let go of the girl's face, balling his hands into fists, "I totally lost it, when I saw that bitch raising her hand to hurt you."

Eunji felt her heart drop in relief.
That means he hasn't been listening to the whole conversation, but only the end part.

Which meant that her secret was still safe. For now.

"I was only seeing red in that moment, Eunji. I can't believe she dared to hurt you not once, but twice." Jungwon exhaled deeply and still refused to look at her, "And I only managed to protect you once."

"Jungwon.." She frowned, "Don't say that. It's fine. Really."

"No, It's not, Eunji. It's not fine at all." He blurted out, making her eyes widen, "We should go to the police."

"What?"

"We need to get a restraint against Ara." He sighed and looked away, irritation all over his face, "To prevent her from ever harassing you again."

"Jungwon..What are you talking about?" The girl shook her head, "It's not necessary-"

"She fucking threatened to kill you, Eunji." Jungwon's voice changed drastically, startling her slightly. His voice was cold and almost stern. It wasn't soft or gentle like it usually was.

Eunji blinked in surprise, before gulping, "Jungwon, I promise you...Ara's all talk anyway. She wouldn't dare to actually hurt me seriously." The girl smiled weakly, trying to reassure him, "Knowing her, she won't even be able to hurt a fly."

"But you don't actually know her. Listen, I won't be able to protect you all the time." Jungwon sighed, letting himself drop onto the chair next to the girl's bed, "I need to make sure you are safe whenever I'm not with you, Eunji."

"Jungwon, I can protect myself." The girl exclaimed self-assured, "A restraint is too much. There's no need."

"You just got out of a surgery. I can't have you get hurt again." He looked into her eyes, "You need to rest and I can't risk someone like Ara to torment you ever again..."

The girl didn't answer, knowing that he wouldn't give up on this no matter what. Sighing, she stared at the boy's face. Worry was written all over his face.

From this point Eunji couldn't stop the smile, that was already creeping up her face, as she laid down on her hospital bed, her gaze still fixed on the boy. Sneakily she asked the most obvious, "Are you worried, Jungwon?"

The boy scoffed, "Are you seriously asking me this?"

"Yep."

Jungwon quietly glanced at her, not answering, before turning away again.
The way the girl wasn't taking this as serious as he was, was bothering him a lot.
Also another thing that was bothering him was the slap mark on the right side of her face. It was immensely visible and almost painful for him to see.
He threw back his dark hair out of irritation, still avoiding her eye contact, "Eunji, I'm seriously worried for you."

Before he could answer, she had already wrapped his arms around his torso, catching him off guard.
Jungwon was beyond surprised, especially when he felt her hand starting to play with a few strands of his hair.
She didn't say anything.
But at the same time it was enough for him to slowly calm down, "I'm sorry." He would suddenly mutter, making her frown.

"For what?"

"I shouldn't have let you alone with her in the first place." His voice was low and quiet and the fact that he was snuggled in her embrace, wasn't helping a lot either so it took her some effort to understand him, "I should have stayed with you from the beginning. If I haven't le-"

"Shh, quiet now. I don't want to hear any of this. You promised me, didn't you?" She interrupted him, "You promised not to do this anymore."
Eunji couldn't help but tighten the hug around him. It was obvious that he was blaming himself again.

"Alright, sorry." He whispered, defeated, as he smiled into the embrace, "You know, I really needed thi-"

Just when he was about to tell her something, the door opened abruptly, making the two of them immediately distance themselves from each other in less than a second.

Embarrassed, Jungwon pretended to look outside the window, while Eunji looked at the wall behind her, trying to seem interested.
Being caught acting all lovey-dovey and getting more
teasing glances from the nurses was the last thing the two wanted.

To their surprise the unexpected visitor this time was in fact not a nurse.

The voice spoke hesitantly, "Did I disturb you two?"
