i plopped myself down on the couch and sighed. sinking down into the soft cushion, i felt at peace.
frustrated luke? take a hit
i'm fine
are you sur-
yes
it's been three months since i moved in and i've met just about all of my neighbors.
except the one next door.
ashton and calum told me more about the boy, but stopped when i passed out during the last story. i didn't understand what was wrong, i just wanted to get to know my neighbor. but the voices would always yell at me because they said it was bad and i shouldn't be thinking about it.
the small hole in that fence mocked me most days, just knowing i could look through it anytime i wanted but at the same time i couldn't. the voices were too loud whenever i went near it. there was a loud knock at the door and i closed my eyes, taking a deep breath before deciding to answer it.
i got up and quickly fixed my hair in the mirror before answering the door. luckily i slept in some sweats and a t-shirt since it was december and i have no idea how to work the system. i swung the door open and froze.
it was the man.
"hi?" i said, it came out more like a question.
"can i come in?"
no
i nodded and opened the door wider allowing him to step inside. "nice place you got going on here." he told me looking around.
"t-thanks." i replied. i played with my thumbs waiting for him to say something.
"so is everything going okay? no-" he stopped himself and looked out the kitchen window. eyeing the tall fence before finishing. "- no neighbor problems?"
yes
i shook my head no and he nodded.
"well that's about it, i won't be back." the man said and started walking towards the door. honestly i wasn't going to object, this guy was crazy and his presence annoyed me. he waved goodbye before shutting the door behind him. he's been visiting for a while, always asking the same question.
as soon as the door closed every thought came flooding in. what was so bad about my neighbor? why did he even care to ask about him, i mean it's not like he lives here anymore. i looked out the window and my eyes trailed up to the very top of the fence. i couldn't add up all the pieces because i barely had any. and now this was pissing me off.
"fuck this." i muttered to myself and quickly threw on a hoodie before leaving my house. i slammed the door behind me and went next door.
don't you dare
rumors. that's all i've heard about this stupid fence and this stupid house. i hopped down my porch and walked along the fence. there has to be something. as i stood in front of the wooden structure i felt someone yank me back.
"are you crazy?!" the voice, who i soon recognized as calum snapped at me.
"what is the problem with this house!" i yelled, pushing calum off of me making him stumble back.
i didn't understand, he seemed like such a normal guy from what calum and ashton told me. so why was he yanking me back? did he not tell me everything?
