nora's point of view

"you know, it's nice to be back in the studio with you guys." sofia says with a cheerful tone on her voice.

"well, we are in a studio but we're not really making any songs at the moment." penny responds, biting into an apple as she walks around the room.

rue suddenly groans as she throws her phone towards the beanbag. "we've got no luck for this stupid starlight records. friggin' giving opportunities my ass." she mocks their slogan.

"calm down rue, we'll be fine. i'm pretty sure there's a lot more labels that are better than that." penny says. "alexander's gonna pull us out of here one day, right alexander?"

"yeah penelope's right. you guys have nothing to worry, we got lots of gigs coming up this january." alexander replies.

i pull myself up from sofia's lap. "i actually wanna talk about our music."

"i'm listening." penelope sits next to sofia as i stood up from the couch.

"you know, i just...i've been thinking about something."

"you've been thinking about rodrick, haven't you?"

"no sofia, i'm not thinking about that stupid guy!" i rolled my eyes, making sofia laugh. "i was thinking about maybe we could switch things up a bit? like, we could try experimenting with another genre?"

"why would we experiment with another genre? what's wrong with the juliettes' punk rock?" rue questions.

"nothing at all, i just thought we could try something different for an ep." i shrug. rue still looked at me displeased. "but like, we can always revert back to our old sound if it doesn't work out. let's just consider this one as an experimental ep."

"i mean, other bands do experiment from time to time until they get their sound." penny says. "what sound do you have in mind?"

"i was hoping maybe like, dream pop synth pop." i described.

"oh so like depeche mode then?" penny adds, making me shake my head in agreement. "well, i don't mind trying new things so i guess why not? what's your say on this one, sofia?"

"i do like listening to synth pop anyways so this should be fun!" sofia stands up then lays her head on my shoulder. "how about you, rue?"

"i don't know, it's just that i don't think the juliettes would be the same if we try out synth pop. it's not that i hate the genre, i just find it off." rue shrugs as she stood up from the corner of the room. "like, who would want to listen to a synth pop band called the juliettes?"

"my mom, a hundred percent." penny chuckles.

"reminds me of when my bloody valentine once tried punk before shoegaze." i hear alexandra comment.
