Wind battered sleet against the window. Again... it had been raining for several daysnow, and Red Velvet, unable to convince the cakes to leave the tents and train, was sitting on the ground behind you, staring straight forward with boredom. You almost felt bad for him; he couldn't train or be too friendly with the new cake hounds, and lots had died recently due to a quick sweep of sickness. The litter had been halved to 16, but thankfully, Chea made it, and was sleeping on top of your feet, peaceful; the survivors from the new litter were playfighting. Naturally.

Chea had never played with them before, or atleast you hadn't seen her play; she was constantly at your side, following you like a shadow. She looked like one, too. Her fur had started to turn from brown to an almost black, speckling and dusting along her back, and her eyes looked brighter than ever against the shadowy pelt. She rolled onto her back, teeth showing, before flipping on her side, snoring. You smiled, crouching and petting her side. Red Velvet was watching you out of the corner of his eye.

You looked back at the window, and spotted the birds again, still flying in the rain. One perched on the windowsill, and you stood, watching it. Definitely one of Madeleine's birds. An idea flickered in your mind, and you swallowed harshly. You couldn't... or could you? It could work... it would hurt on the way down, and you wouldn't have the endurance, but you could try. You just needed to think of something to do.

You slowly turned, and, gently pushing Chea off your feet, you sat, placing your chin in your hands. If you could have him bring another horse... but what if he didn't show up? What if he went to the wrong side of the tower? Then you remembered something; the horse. You asked Espresso to leave it behind... it definitely had enough food and water to have survived. You'd at least alert Madeleine first. You stood, and tapped Red Velvet on the shoulder. He looked to you, slowly, and sighed.

"What."

"I'm bored."

"Entertain yourself."

You sat down next to him.

"I was wondering if I could have a pencil and paper to draw something." He groaned, and stood up, walking to the door.

"Fine."

He whisked out the door, returning with a piece of paper and a pencil.

"Have at it." He dropped it at your feet, and you smiled, before starting a throw-off sketch on the back; you'd have to wait for him to leave. So you moved painfully slow. You decided to draw a little house in the middle of the woods, with a cobblestone road, and boy did you take your sweet time. Red Velvet was looming over your shoulder, watching you, but, quickly, he got impatient; tapping the ground, looking away distractedly, until, eventually, he got up and left wordlessly. Probably because the rain stopped. As soon as he was gone, you laid on your stomach, hiding the paper from the new camera, and started writing.

Madeleine.

I'm not going to be formal. This is Y/N. I'm not dead. I'm fine, just captured. I'm going to escape soon. Tell everyone I'm okay.

You rolled up the paper, and walked to the window, opening it for fresh air and hanging your arms out, paper held tightly. One of the birds landed on the windowsill, chirping, and you put the paper in front of it. It grabbed it with its claws, looking at you.
