Being Sick

Ella's P.O.V.

I coughed roughly and I wrapped my blanket around me tighter. I had been feeling under the weather all day, especially after Bruce left. I didn't want to hold him back from work, since I knew he'd insist on taking care of me, so I didn't say anything when he left.

"Alfred," I crooked out, Alfred coming in and sighing.

I could tell he was disappointed I hadn't let him call Bruce, but he also looked worried.

"Are you sure you don't want me to call Master Bruce?" Alfred asked and I shook my head.

"He's at work today, his company needs him."

"And so does his girlfriend."

"Alfred, please, I'm fine. Just- could you get me some cough medicine please?"

He sighed and nodded.

"Alright."

"Thank you," I crooked, coughing again and laying down on my bed.

Hopefully, this was just a fever and would be gone by tomorrow. I really wanted to get better by the end of the day, but I knew it wouldn't be possible. Bruce was going to scold me for sure.

A few hours later... Bruce's P.O.V.

I walked into the house to be greeted by Alfred, who looked worried and on edge.

"Thank goodness you're home, sir," he said and I raised a brow.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Miss Eleanor has been terribly sick all day. She refused to let me call you, insisting she wanted you to focus on work."

I immediately rushed to our room to find Ella curled up in a ball having a coughing fit.

"Ella!" I exclaimed, rushing over to her.

"Bruce," she mumbled before coughing again. "My throat hurts."

I placed a hand on her forehead and my eyes widened. Her skin was so hot I almost flinched back.

"You're burning up!" I exclaimed. "Alfred! Bring some bags of ice up here!"

I've heard the saying 'feed a cold, starve a fever', but her temperature was so high at this point that it was looking pretty dangerous. I picked up Ella and brought her to the bathroom. I started the tub, making the water as cold as possible. When it was full I carefully set Ella down in it.

"B-Bruce," she gasped, grasping my arm. "It's freezing."

"I know princess, I'm so sorry."

Alfred rushed in with the ice and he dumped it in the tub. Ella gasped and coughed.

"P-Please," she whispered. "I-Its cold."

I felt my heart drop.

"I'm sorry princess," I said. "But I have to do this."

Ella shifted under my hands, but then stopped.

"Everything's numb. I-I'm so tired."

I placed my hand on Ella's forehead, and her temperature started to go down.

"It's working," I breathed out in relief.

Alfred let out a breath as I lifted Ella out of the tub. He got some towels and I wrapped her in them.

"I'm so sorry," I whispered to Ella, kissing her head.

Ella mumbled incoherently and coughed a little. I set her down on the bed, just as the Batwave went off.

"G-Go," Ella insisted. "I-I'll be fine."

I gave Ella a sorry look and I kissed her head.

"I'll be back as soon as I can," I said before rushing out.

"Y-You better be."
