Trauma: the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual's ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences.

Trauma.

Dream, in this fanfic, has trauma because of the physical and mental abuse and pain he suffered.

Do NOT expect him to so easily get into a relationship with Angelica. His ex abused him and you're all lashing on him for being human and doing a simple mistake? And it's not even a mistake. He wasn't ready.

"He still shouldn't have kissed Angelica if he knew her feelings for him."

I explained this like so many fucking times oh my god...

Dream liked Angelica. He liked her. He kissed her because he did like her. Fuck, he was in love with her. When he kissed her, he meant it. He meant everything.

Listen to, or read, this.

As soon as he realized what he did, Dream felt back to every single moment he endured with his ex. Every bruise given to him. Everything.

His girlfriend cheated on him, beat him, manipulated him, and you all expect him to be all sunshine and rainbows? No.

If his girlfriend did that to him, there must be something wrong with him, right? Because that's what he believed; there was something wrong with him.

"But still, he shouldn't have kissed her."

You literally got me out of this small break I was in so I could fucking explain why Dream did what he did. Again.

As someone who has seen this type of relationship, the person who was in an abusive relationship still suffers that pain. Some let that pain shape them while other let that pain entirely destroy them.

Dream's trauma isn't gonna vanish just like Angelica's depression isn't going to disappear either.

Yes, they should've communicated but can half of you communicate with your crush about your feelings? No (and that's okay. Believe me, I could barely do it so I'm calling myself out, too).

If I wrote this:

Angelica, having been in an abused relationship, was hesitant to love, having thought she was the problem. But, there was something about Dream, so she kissed.

But, when she realized what she had done, she took a step back, eyes wide in shock. She looked at Dream, who was staring at her, but she could simply touch her lips with the tips of her fingers, leaving her slightly shaken up.

Before Dream could utter anything, she had walked away.

If I said this, how much I bet you majority of the comments would be:

"Guys, don't hate on her, she was in an abusive relationship."

"See it from her point of view, she was in a horrible relationship."

Yes, the roles would be reversed.

Thank you to those who understood Dream, honestly. As someone who has seen this type of trauma affect a person in a negative manner, it was nice to see who understood.

As for Dream's ex in this story... the comments are not it...

There were people who thankfully explained the situation better than I did and please don't send hate to the character or to the real person if you do find them. Don't.
