I soon found that the delicious steak I was previously munching on, was now lodged in my throat. I gasped for air like a dying fish as Jenny prepared to apply the Heimlich Manoeuvre on me. Mom passed me a glass of water and I pushed away my sister slowly.

With a napkin I dabbed at the forming tears in my eyes from the choking. "What did you just say?!"

Mrs Lynch - despite the scene I have just displayed - grinned. "You'll be marrying Ross in a matter of months"

"Wh-WHY?!"

"We should have probably told you this before but it's a family tradition. Our girls are always arranged to marry somebody wealthy who can guarantee them a good life until the end of their days" Mom explained excitedly.

"What happens if she refuses?" Jenny asked.

"Then she's disowned, like my sister-"

"We have an aunt?!" I piped up.

Mom looked at her lap. "Had"

Right that is alarming.
Another second in here and I may just throw up. Why out of all times, especially now I'm basically dating Evan. WHY.

I pushed myself up from the table. "I need time alone"

With those simple words, I walked to the back door and walked out, sliding it shut. I found a clean spot on one of the steps before the grass and sat down with a sigh.

I raked through my hair and couldn't help but tap my feet. And now I can feel a migraine coming along, great. My phone vibrated in my hand. Evan. Bae.

"Hey, how's the dinner going?" His cheery voice echoed through my phone. I couldn't help but smile.

"Could be worse, what are you doing now?"

"I'm taking a break for once, laying here, thinking about yoooouuu-"

"No more detail, please" I chuckled awkwardly. "I should probably go back inside now, I came out to get air"

"Want me to drop by your apartment today?" I could visualise the cheeky smirk on his face.

"Sure, I'm in need of cuddles" I rubbed my left temple to ease the growing headache.

"I wasn't planning on cuddling"

I laughed. "We'll see about that, bye!"

With a final chuckle, I hung up and took a stand.

"Who was that?"

I shrieked and almost fell back, Ross standing by the door looking at me. "What are you doing listening to my conversation?"

"I came to check if you were okay" he said. "I only heard 'bye'. Who was it?"

"Someone"

"You know for this to work you have to dump your boyfriend because I am giving up all the ladies for you" he pointed a lean finger at me.

I chuckled. "You really think I'm going down without a fight? Just watch"

"And you really think I will let Charlotte Brown, the new fresh face of GQ Magazine, slip out of my hands that easily" he placed his hand on my waist and goosebumps instantly appeared on my arms. He inched closer, close enough for me to see the faint green in his eyes. "Just watch"

With both hands I pushed him away from me and fought myself to not slap the cocky smirk off his face. I scoffed and walked back inside.

"I better call a cab" I grabbed my phone. "The dinner was nice, the news with it? Not so much"

Mr Lynch chuckled. "I like her already"

I smiled politely at him. Ross emerged from thin air beside me. "I'll drop you off"

"Oh no, I don't want to be much of a hassle"

"It's totally fine" he grabbed his car keys from the pocket of his blazer. I glared at him but continued to smile.

"No-"

"Charlie" Mom hissed. "I think it will be best if Ross drops you off. LA is a dangerous place for a girl-"

"I have pepper sp-"

"Charlotte" she snapped. I grabbed my bag from Jenny and gave her a hug.

"Bye Mr and Mrs Lynch, bye Jenny" I glanced at my parents and closed the door. Then I followed Ross to the matte black Lamborghini he was leaning against. Impressive.

"Why would you marry me, though?" I said once in the car. "You can get anyone. You're rich, handsome and 25. I'm a rookie and 21"

"Have you ever considered that I want you?" He never looked away from the road.

"Why me?! You know nothing about me though!"

"Hence why I want to get to know you, plus, I don't want to let my parents down" his voice became softer.

"What?"

"Don't worry" we pulled up outside of my condo. His hand was now on my knee. "Want me to come up with you? I have plans on how we can get to know each other..if you know what I mean"

I slid his hand off my thigh (it moved up slowly). "One : I am not one of your sluts, I have self-value. Two : you disgust me already. Three : don't call unless I call you, okay? Thanks for the ride"

"Suit yourself sweetie" I could feel his eyes on me as I got out. "Also, may I just say; was that ass crafted by God because holy mother of Christ, it is out of this world"

I shook my head at him and scoffed before walking into the lobby of my building. To my luck the elevator was empty so I could take off my heels. With a deep sigh, I arrived at my door and looked for the keys.

It was dark inside which meant Gail was out. What I definitely wasn't expecting was the two arms around me as soon as the door shut. "It is illegal to smell this good even after a day's work"

"It's probably the steak" I turned around to Evan. "How did you get in?"

"Gail left 5 minutes ago and I've been hiding ever since" he grinned. "You look tired"

I nodded. "I am. I need a shower, ice cream and then bed"

"Well then, how about something before that shower to make sure that you definitely get a good night's sleep" Evan winked. "It's this medicine I was given for my cold, it messes with hormones"

"Hmm" I wrapped my arms around his neck as his went around my waist. "I mean, we could make do with a little bit of-"

He picked me up and I screamed. "That settles it, to your room!!"

Evan (Peters) and Charlie have a short relationship but they are so goals 😍
