.James.

"I'm telling you, give her a chance" Riley said on the window sill the next morning. We spent most of last night up here talking and now since I woke up I've been here disturbing her from her homework
"Maybe" I muttered throwing a ball up in the air
"If you shut them out for too long James, there might not be any going back" She said raising her eyebrows at me
"Alright Mrs know-it-all" I teased. I've known this girl for 3 days and it's crazy to even begin to think about how much we now know about each other
"What time are you heading back to your mums?" Riley asked and I sighed
"12" I replied looking at the clock to see it was already 11:20
"But hey, don't go disappearing on me now" I chuckled making her roll her eyes
Riley most certainly wouldn't be the type of girl to easily slip into our friendship circle at school but at the same time I don't think I would even want her to
There is just something about her

.Riley.

Walking into school Monday morning, it felt a little different. It felt like last weekend had gone by so slowly but I guess time slows down when you are actually enjoying yourself
I got to my locker where I began to listen into people's conversation about the party I had happily missed out on
"You should have seen the boys, they were wasted. Especially Hunter and Eldon" A Brunette laugh, I mean typical Eldon. His alcohol tolerance has always been shocking
I watch as the boys start to form their little circle at the lockers behind me. Eldon is walking with his head down, he most certainly made a fool of himself this weekend. My curiosity is peaking though El, what did you do..

"Look it's the man of the hour" Someone laughed
"What's up man" I hear James say, smiling to myself I glance over my shoulder to see him stood around with all his boys
In his prime as most would say. He hadn't even noticed that I was there but then again, he hadn't for the entirety of our school lives. What one more day
I chuckled too myself closing my locker and heading to first period
As I walked past the boys, James makes eye contact with me for a second before it gets broken, then before a second had passed he turned around again looking at me making me laugh again as I continued to walk away

"I mean I know you told me you went to my school but I didn't expect you to be in half of my lessons and yet still be able to ignore me" I hear the famous voice say, I looked up from my book to see James stood there.
School had ended like 30 minutes ago and with his track record. I didn't even think he knew what the Library was
"What can I say, I'm easily hidden" I replied with a smile making him laugh
"You could have come and said hi you know, met the guys" James said taking a seat in front of me
"I think I'm going to take a hard pass on that one" I replied making some notes from the book in front of me
"why?" He asked and I gave him a look
"I've heard the stories about your boys, and the girls you introduce to them" I replied and James rolled his eyes
"So what? Friends in secret?" James asked and I smirked a little
"When did we get upgraded to friends" I asked crossing my arms, James narrowed his eyes at me before throwing a piece of crumbled up paper at me
"Don't play Riley" He chucked causing me to laugh again
"Yeah maybe it is best we keep this to just the two of us. Less possibility of drama then" I suggested, drama was something I didn't want nor did I need in my life
"Really?" James asked and I hesitantly nodded
"It gives you an escape goat from all the parties though" I said trying to give him a benefit to this
"if this is truly what you want, then so be it" He replied smiling back at me but I couldn't help but think that smile wasn't as genuine as his usual ones with me

Walking into my house the following evening, it was silent. There was no arguing, no yelling nothing.
I walked into the living room to see nobody was there and soon found out it was the same through out the house. I  was home alone. That was a rarity
As soon as I was about to flail onto the sofa my phone begins to go off and the face of my sister lighting up on the screen made me smile
"Hey Em" I said answering the phone
"Riley! Hey" She chimed making me smile more
"How is college?" I asked while hearing some commotion in the background
"It's great actually!" She said, Emily had truly found her happy place and it was about 600 miles away from me
"That great Em, if you are busy I can leave you to it. We can talk some other time" I offered
"Are you you sure Riles?"  She asked and I nodded
"Go have fun Em" I replied before hearing her giggling
"I love you Riley" She sung
"I love you too" I replied hanging up the phone
Maybe I should accept that everyone has the lives around me, I'm not really anything special to be involved in any of them. I've grown to accept that much at least
