.Riley.

James and I decided to go for a walk, truth be told it was obvious we needed to talk about this. Something is going on and it needs a united front not just one of us fighting this off
We got to our pond and sat down
James for the first time in his life was fidigitting, he was clearly anxious about whatever this was about

"So what happened" I asked making him look up at me
"When I tell you this, please remember I was a stupid little kid. I didn't know what I was doing. I was a dick" He said only making me nervous
"What happened James?" I asked placing my hand on top of his
He sighed looking at me one more time before bowing his head again

"When I was maybe 14? I met Connor, we hit it off pretty well even though he was  2 years older then me" James started and I nodded. That adds up, Connor is two years above us in school. Although intellectually he's 3 years behind us
"He got me into some bad shit. It was full of sleeping around, drugs, drinking. You name it.. We did it" He whispered before glancing up at me
I wasn't about to leave James for some shitty choices he made when he was a kid
"It was friday night, Connor threw one of his parties and provided a lot of things. Me being me, I couldn't say no so I drunk whatever was handed to me until I was almost paralytic drunk. I don't remember anything from the night. I don't even remember turning up at the party" He rambled

"James what happened at the party?" I asked, I know he was stalling or trying to switch subjects
"I apparently slept with Connor's sister" He said bowing his head, I looked at him confused
"This is all because you slept with his sister?" I asked and he shook his head
"After I apparently slept with her, she became obsessed, like I'm talking the second I stepped foot into the house she was clinging to me to the point I distanced myself" He explained
"That didn't stop her, she did everything she could to see me. Including putting herself into danger" He said bowing his head once more

"What did she do?" I asked making James' breath hitch. I looked at him and I could tell this was already hurting him
"she got into a car when she was drunk. She was attempting to come to my house. Until some guy in a pick up truck hit her" He whispered making my eyes widen.
"Is she?" I asked and James nodded still not looking at me
"She died on impact. Since then Connor has been hell bent of driving anyone I set my eyes on insane. To the point they do the same or something similar" James said before looking up at me

I won't lie, I didn't really know what to say, I also didn't really understand this. It was an accident. It was a tragic accident but an accident none the less. James should not be carrying this blame around
"Please say something" He said grabbing my hands, I looked at him before placing my hand on his cheek stroking it gently
"That wasn't your fault James" I whispered making him close his eyes at the sound of my voice
"It was a tragic accident. I don't care what Connor throws our way. We've got this okay?" I whispered making him nod
"But we need to be honest about anything that happens with him because the second we lie the harder this becomes" I replied making him look at m

"You're okay" I continued making him sigh looking at me
You could tell nobody has said this to him yet. He's been living with the guilt for some time now. It's time he tries to grow passed it
"I love you" He whispered making my breath hitch before I smiled
"I love you too James" I replied before pressing our lips together
