Protect Yourself~ Natasha

(no this was definitely not a vent... :/ maybe it was)

Alone in your room, you became very restless. Natasha was across the hall in her office working on some very important files for Fury but you were bored. Sighing, you got up and knocked on her door, a quiet 'come in' being heard from the other side.

"Can I help you?" she didn't even look up. "I miss you when you work all day," you spoke timidly, afraid your girlfriend was in a bad mood. She looked up from her computer, noticing it was you at the door and smiled, "come sit on my lap."

As she wrapped her arms around you, you nuzzled your face into the crook of her neck, smiling at her warm embrace. "I miss you when I'm working too," she gently brought a hand up to cradle your head, playing with your hair.

"Let me just finish this report and I'll be back in bed in no time," she tightened her grip around your waist. "Alright," you tried to get up but Natasha wasn't going to let you. "You're staying here," she told you firmly. It didn't bother you so you simply rest your head on her shoulder, waiting for her to do her work.

Natasha was always protective of you, whether it be when you're at a party or when you're watching a horror film. Never once did she judge you for your fears and triggers, she would never dream of it.

As she locked her computer, she smiled down at you already staring up at her. "You're cute," she kissed your forehead. "Can we go to bed now?" you asked her, hopefully. "Of course, do you wanna watch a film?" she picked you up and carried you to your room.

"Can we watch a show instead?" you held her hand tightly as she tried to walk to the other side of the bed, leading her to just jumping over you to get to her side. "Of course, Grey's?" she suggested. "Sure," you were a little skeptical to watch it and Natasha noticed.

"It's okay, I'll be here for you," she assured you. You nodded and curled up into her side as the episode began playing. After a few episodes, Natasha had stopped holding you in her arms, keeping her hands to herself, making you frown.

Something that made you uncomfortable started happening in the show, and usually Natasha would hold your hand through the scenes that panicked you, but she was just refusing to. "Natasha?" you shakily spoke. "Protect yourself, I'm going to sleep," she snapped.

"But-" you began. "I said I'm going to sleep," she firmly spoke. You sat next to her as she faced away from you, struggling to control your breathing as the situation in the show escalated. Standing on unsteady legs, you walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water.

Black dots began to cloud your vision as your fears and anxieties took over. You tried to sit on one of the stools around the island but couldn't focus enough to get up. Slowly, the world around you began to fade as your body became overwhelmed by the panic you were feeling.

You just needed Natasha. You needed her to hold you and tell you everything was going to be okay. But she wasn't there. She was asleep. So you decided to do the same, sleep. As you lost your balance, your head slammed against the tiled floor, blood splattering around you.

That's how Natasha found you when she woke up. Guilt coursed through her veins as she cradled your body in her arms, calling 911 as she did so. She couldn't lose you. Not after losing so much already.

She just needed you. She needed to hold you and tell you everything was going to be okay. But she couldn't. You were dead.
