That afternoon I was not looking forward to asking Marcus for some money to get an outfit. I don't think that he could take it all at once. I was going to a party and now I was trying to be cute to attend. I walked in the living room and cleared my throat waking him up."What do you want?"
"Money."
"Money for what?"
He shuffled out of his sleep rubbing his eyes.
"I have to get something to wear to that party and I need my hair and nails done."
"Wow. Why the big 360?"
"No reason."
"Don't lie."
"It's not a lie, I just wanna look nice?"
"Daniela Marie."
I knew he meant business, alright time to spill it.
"Okay maybe there's this boy, and maybe he's cute, and maybe I might like him. But this is all a big and huge maybe. So maybe I'm lying-"
He cut me off.
"Maybe you should SHUT UP!"
I threw a pillow at him and he laughed. He stood up and walked over to me putting his hands around my face.
"Mom wanted so much for you to grow up and be her little princess. You know it would have killed her if she was here when you decided to not go to prom."
"So? Is that a yes to the money?"
"Danii, you're beautiful. Baby-sis I just want you to believe it as much as I do, as much as mom and dad did. You don't like the little bit of weight you have then do something to change it but regardless don't feel like you're not worthy of anyone."
"Marcus you're scaring me?"
He snapped out of it and reached in his pocket handing me his credit card.
"Go tear up the mall kid."
He smiled and I grabbed the plastic before he could change his mind.
"See you later!"
Off to the mall, with Trey going to the party I really had to step it up. Really. I went and picked Keyanna up. Our first stop was the hair store. Keyanna walked around with no effort knowing exactly where to go. I wandered aimlessly amazed at the million different types of hair. Finally Keyanna walked over and saved me.
"You look so lost."
"I am."
I looked at the pack of hair she had in her hands.
"What are you going to do with that?"
"What' you mean? I'm about to sew these tracks in and curl it up like that Toya girl from 'Tiny n Toya.'"
"Oh, okay, It's so long though."
The pack read 18 inches.
"Don't hate wait til you see it. What are you doing with yours is the question? That ponytail got to go!"
She flicked my ponytail and laughed.
"Well you're supposed to help me! I'm new to this!"
Keyanna stood back and looked at me for a few minutes.
"Well you already got a lot of hair. So, hmmm? What about a Mohawk."
"A mo-what? You're not cutting my hair!"
"DUH! I'm gonna put some dope braids going up the side and we'll add some hair for ya hump and the middle."
I looked at her puzzled and she rolled her eyes.
"I got this, just c'mon."
By the time we left the hair store. I had two packs of hair, eyeliner, eye shadow, some oversized earrings, all these things were foreign to me. But under Keyanna's guidance hopefully everything would come together. Next stop, the mall. It was easy for Keyanna to find something, she was a size 2, for us plus sized girls not so easy. We fought until we finally got to Torrid. I'd walked past it, but never went inside until today. Keyanna went crazy throwing everything in my hands and practically dragging me into the dressing room. 2 hours later I had spent $200 dollars on Marcus' credit cart and had my outfit for the night.
"C'mon we going to see ya boo."
