Duel

Aletio POV~

Right now, I'm in a large circular arena about to witness a duel between Julius and Subaru. Reinhard was trying to talk Julius out of fighting him. He seemed worried that Julius might hurt him.

Now how did this happen?

Simple.

Subaru stupidly said sh*t about the knights and stuff and then declared himself as Emilia's knight. I and Ken tried to get him out of trouble but he made it worse by saying that it wasn't a big deal to be a knight and they got their jobs because of the daddy's name.

And so Emilia had to send him out of the hall and I accompanied him.

Some time later Julius approached us and told us to come with him. Well, not us but Subaru.

And then he took us here. I can see where he's going with this.

He's trying to act like a villain to ensure that Subaru gets off easily and not face the rage of the other knights. Ken was a different case. He was a knight himself and had more than enough strength. But he thought Subaru was weak. Which uh...

Was a terrible misconception. Subaru's far more powerful than any average person. He might even be comparable to knights with purely physical capabilities. Not to mention the weapons he has. His combat capabilities are impressive but what he severely lacks is experience. So that might be a problem.

Anyway, Julius passed Subaru a wooden sword and declared death penalty on him. Great.

The fight started as both Subaru and Julius rushed at each other. Julius slashed at Subaru which he was able to block. Julius continued to attack Subaru and all he could do was defend himself. Julius wasn't giving him an opening. This continued for some time and Julius had gotten some decent hits on Subaru. But Subaru during his training with me had been beaten a lot worse than this.

Then Subaru used magic to make an opening for himself. He used a shamac spell which covered the entire arena in a smoke. Julius cleared all the smoke with a single swing of his sword but this gave him a chance to attack. Now, Subaru started attacking Julius while using mana to strengthen himself. He wasn't using [Mana Burst] but just pumping mana through his body. His control was way too poor to use [Mana Burst].

Julius was being pushed into a tough spot. Their situation had been reversed. But that didn't last long as I felt his mana flare up and 6 glowing orbs appeared beside him. Julius was suddenly powered up as he began blasting Subaru with attacks from all sorts of angles.

Even reinforcement wasn't helping Subaru. Julius delivered a blow to his leg which made him fall down but got up soon after. They continued battling. The audience was shocked that Subaru was doing so well against Julius. I could tell they were only here to watch Subaru get humiliated, but this was completely out of their expectations. Although Subaru was being beaten up, he was doing really well against Julius. Any normal person would be completely destroyed.

Subaru was gritting his teeth and trying to find an opening. But even though he was able to find it, he wasn't able to exploit it. He was not in a good situation at all. But then...

I felt his mana flare up. He activated [Mana Burst] even though his mana control was really bad. But because he wasn't able to control all of it, the [Mana Burst] ended up becoming a [Magic Burst]. And an explosion occurred as a lot of dust was kicked up. Julius was sent flying back but was able to land safely on the ground.

When the just settled, Subaru was seen kneeling a little with his hand on his chest.

'He probably cracked his core with that stunt. The sudden implosion that happens in the core due to the mana rushing outwards isn't something that a [Mana Core] of C rank can handle.' I thought looking at Subaru who was in pain.

Subaru proceeded to get up and rush at Julius. But because he didn't have any mana to support himself he wasn't doing as well as he was doing previously.

Subaru was getting attacked repeatedly without any chance to retaliate.

While that was happening, I sensed Emilia and the other royal candidates rushing towards our location.

Emilia arrived and yelled towards Subaru.

"Subaru!" She said.

Julius's attention went towards her for a second and that was all that Subaru needed.

But he did something I didn't expect him to do.

"ARMED INVENTORY!"

'SH*T!' I think as I ready [Failure].

"KAMISH'S PRIDE!" Subaru said as [Kamish's Pride] began materializing in his hand. Julius looked towards the sword he pulled out in surprise. When Subaru was about to swing the sword I leaped into the arena.

Subaru swung the sword at Julius but I appeared in between them and held up [Failure]. Then the entire arena got broken apart by the clash of the two weapons. Dust flying everywhere and blocking anyone from seeing the arena.

Everyone was looking at the arena with a shocked expression.

When the dust settled I and Subaru were seen in the middle. I was holding up my sword with Subaru's sword clashing with it.

Julius was standing behind me safe from all the destruction.

I looked towards Subaru with a serious expression.

"What are you thinking you idiot! Pulling out [Kamish's Pride] in a duel! Are you trying to kill him!?" I said to him.

Everyone watching was taken aback by my comment but didn't question it. They could see how much destruction the attack caused.

Then Emilia came to the arena.

Subaru looked like he didn't know what to say. He was bruised all over and was bleeding a little from the corner of his mouth. I looked at him and sighed. Then I went ahead and knocked him out.

I looked towards Emilia.

"W-Why did he do t-that...?" she said

"...maybe you should ask him when he wakes up..." I said. Emilia just looked towards the ground without saying anything.

I looked down at the unconscious body of Subaru.

'Jeez Subaru. You've really done it this time...'

The chapter was really short with only 1001 words.

I don't know how to write fight scenes nor do I know how to write reactions but I tried my best here.
