Chapter 20: Dark

Izuki's POV

Ugh. I hadn't realized just how tired I really was. I don't think any of the others are awake by now, and I don't think any of them know how to cook, so I should probably start breakfast.

I open my eyes, and Gaara... Wasn't there? ...wait. I shouldn't freak out, he probably woke up already. He's probably fine. But just in case, I should check to see if he's with Okami and Tori.

I get up from bed, and walk over to the room that Tori and Okami share. I put my ear up against the door, trying to hear if anything was happening. It's silent. They're probably still asleep. But still... I don't know why, but I have a bad feeling. Like Gaara's in danger. No harm in checking right? I open the door and, well, to say that the room was a mess would be a severe understatement. Clothes were strewn across the floor, candy wrappers were littered around the room, it was just an all around mess. But that wasn't important. "Tori. Tori!!!" I whisper shout as I try to shake him awake.

"Mmmm." Tori groans, half asleep. "Gaara's missing!" I say, shaking him again. "Eh, he's probably fine. You saw what he could do right? Now let me sleep." Tori grumbles, closing his eyes again. "Yeah he has a cool ability, but he's still just a little kid! We have to find him!"
"Ugh, fine. I was having a good dream until you woke me up!" Tori whined. "What was it about?" I ask. Tori blushes. "NOTHING. IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS." Tori says defensively. Damn, alright. "Uh, shouldn't we wake Okami up too?" I ask, pointing at Okami's sleeping figure. "Are you insane? Trust me, you should NEVER wake Okami up. It's like poking a sleeping bear." "Is he really that ba- you know what? Just get dressed and meet me outside."

"Okay, now what?" Tori asks. "Well, the first thing we should do is tell Chie-sensei. If Gaara really did get kidnapped by the artisans, he should know what to do." I explained. "Do we really have to? Wouldn't we get in trouble or something?" Tori asks, scratching his head. "I see your point. But if we don't tell him, we'll get in even more trouble! He'll find out eventually." I say. "Find out about what?" Asked a voice from right behind me.

Tori and I both yelped in surprise. Chie-sensei just chuckled and shook his head. "No matter how many times I do it, your reactions never get old." He said, smiling. "Well, I guess that saves us the trouble of trying to find you..." I said. "So, what was it that you were going to tell me about?" Chie-sensei asked. "Absolutely nothing!" Tori said, with fake enthusiasm. "Gaara's missing." I said, still a little tired. "Wha- Izuki! You were supposed to play along!" "Look Tori, we don't have time for this. We are going to need Chie-sensei's help if we're going to find Gaara, and he's right here."

"YOU LOST GAARA?!" Chie-sensei yelled. Not as chill as I thought he'd be... "We think he snuck out, or at least I do." I said as I watched Chie-sensei attempt to regain his composure. He sighed. "Well, I suppose that explains one thing." "What?" Tori asked. "As I was spying on their hideout, I saw some people in cloaks carrying a large bag inside. I was curious about what was in it, but I guess you just answered my question." Well, fuck. Gaara's in enemy hands. I knew something felt off! "Alright, first, we'll need a plan to get him back. luckily, I think I have just the thing." Chie-sensei said, a knowing grin on his face.
