I wiped the sweat off my forehead, leaning down to pick up my bags again.
Sam patted me on the back as he walked by me, muttering some vague encouraging words that didn't help much.I looked up ahead to the rest of the hill as I started walking again. The film was coming out a disaster so far, our collective acting wasn't so great, and it turns out i'm not as good with a camera as I thought.
I felt the weight lighten on my shoulders and turned around to see Weston flash a smile at me, suddenly holding the heaviest equipment that I'd been carrying.
His bright smile caught me off guard and I thought of what words to use to tell him "thank you", but the moment was gone as he was already walking ahead of me.
I wanted to kick myself for being so awkward.
We all huffed and dropped our stuff at the top of the hill. It was too hot a day to be carrying stuff up hills. I squinted in the sunlight and looked around to the forest below us, seeing our college building and the rest of the city in the distance. I adjusted my shorts slightly.
"Right!" Weston started, rubbing his hands together. "This is a dramatic scene guys... so no joking around. Total focus and work only." he scanned the group with his pointed finger and Kalynn laughed at him. "I'm looking at you Kalynn, god."
I set up the camera as Olivia and Sam got ready to do the acting, and Sam gave me a thumbs up before I hit record.
"Let's turn back!" Sam said dramatically, "The murderer's still on the loose! it's the worst time to go camping!"
I adjusted my grip on the camera, careful not to shake it.
"Jesus, a girl's just missing, im sure she's not dead. Probably ran off.." Olivia replied to him, waving her hand.
Their acting was still bad, and hearing the script in person was underwhelming. I glanced over at Weston, who had his arms crossed, one hand holding onto a pencil which he was chewing slightly, his eyebrows furrowed.
He looked so handsome, his dark blonde hair falling in his eyes a little. He had a cute focused expression on his face.
I looked back at Sam and Olivia, then back at Weston. I caught him looking at me, and as soon as our eyes met he looked back at the scene and resumed that focused expression.
I took a deep breath, looking back at the others.
We kept filming for several hours after that, until eventually between filming Weston signalled for me to go over to him. I glanced around to check he hadn't been gesturing to someone else.
"What is it?" I asked, walking over to him. I'd tried to sound cool and casual, but it just came off as blunt.
"Can you help me write the next scene for the script now?" He asked, looking at me expectantly. "We've done a lot more than I thought so it'd be good to keep ahead with the writing."
"Uh, Yeah, sure."
I handed the camera to Olivia, then walked over to the bench with Weston, sitting down next to him."OK. So this scene is when they're gonna go to the camping trip, and we really wanna build the tension here and make the audience feel this... eerie uneasiness.." He started, moving his hands as he talked about it. I watched him intently as he talked. "Just yeah, we gotta come up with some genius dialogue right now that even Sam's acting can't ruin."
Being around Weston, even in a boring and serious situation like doing college work, felt so bright and fun. He said everything in a way that made me want to laugh, and I didn't even know if it was with or at him.
