Kalynn screamed, running out of the water and splashing Weston, who was chasing her.
"CUT!" Olivia called, and they both stopped. Weston pulled off his hockey mask and spat some lake water out, wiping his mouth with his forearm, since his hand was busy gripping the kitchen knife.
"Kalynn, don't splash water at the serial killer, it just looks stupid." Olivia stated, and I stopped recording.
"Hey guys, do you think it's a good idea to use an actual kitchen knife when we film?" I asked, and Weston dramatically pretended to fall towards Kalynn with the knife, going "whOA!"
"DUDE, that's not even funny!" Kalynn shouted, pushing Weston away from her.
I was pretty sure Weston had no idea that I knew about him and Isabelle, who'd been coming over ours a lot, recently.
I was also pretty sure Olivia had no idea about him and Isabelle, from the way that she was still all over her.
I watched him pull the mask back over his face, trudging back into the lake to prepare for the scene again.
I started recording and Weston lunged towards Kalynn with the knife, who screamed, rushing out of the water, tripping and stumbling, him also catching up with her for a second before she found her footing and sprinted off into the clearing, stopping as I yelled "CUT!"
'it went pretty OK!', I thought.
"Hey, that went pretty ok!" Weston declared. "I was thinking, it's a pretty hot day, the water is clear," he gestured to the water, "I'm already drenched," he gestured to himself, "we should shoot the scene where I kill Anais?"
"Anais's character." I corrected him.
He shrugged, "Eh whatever..... Anais, Anais's character..." He said sarcastically, walking up to me, "I drown you in the film, I drown you in real life, let's just see what happens!"
He punched my shoulder, playfully. "See where the day takes us, ya know?"I pushed his arm away before he could ruffle my hair - something he'd made a habit of doing whenever he pushed my buttons - before telling him to fuck off.
Olivia squinted her eyes in the midday sun at her clipboard, chewing the end of her pencil whilst she thought. "Yeah... yeah... OK, let's do that scene..."
——
For some reason my heart was thumping loud in my chest as I stood on the narrow wooden pier, looking ahead at the lake.
I emptied out my pockets- some change, my headphones, my phone- and handed it to Sam, giving him a smile.
"OK." Olivia started, holding the camera up and looking through the viewfinder. "You're gonna walk along here- SLOWLY, and the killer is gonna grab you and pull you underwater. You have to really make us think you don't see it coming. Got it?" She said, quickly, in her high pitched voice.
"Got it." Weston and I said in unison, then Weston didnt waste another second before running down the pier and jumping into the lake.
"You got the waterproof lense on that camera, right?" Kalynn asked, sitting down by the edge of the pier, out of view of the camera.
"Yeah, yeah I got it." Olivia replied. "Ok, and... action." We all went silent.
My heart remained fast as I slowly walked down the pier, Olivia following me closely with the camera. I knew the lake wouldn't be as cold as I wanted it to be, the sun blaring down on my skin. I hoped I didn't burn.
I wasn't sure if I was more nervous about being jumped and pulled underwater suddenly, or about Weston touching me. It was so stupid that those two things were equally scary to me. He's just a guy, I reminded myself. Just a stupid guy.
