I groaned when the fire alarm woke me up, pushing off my duvet and getting up. I pulled on an oversized shirt and some shorts. I grabbed a bottle of water before walking out of my room. taking a big swig. Olivia came out of her room at the same time as me, looking like shit."Liv.." I started, but Olivia just ignored me and walked out.
I followed her downstairs and outside, to where everyone in the building had ended up outside, holding their arms to their bodies in the cold night air.
I glanced over to see that Weston was sitting down all by himself on the curb, zoned out, looking at the backs of his hands. Then I almost jumped as Kalynn was suddenly making a beeline towards me out of nowhere.
"Hi." She said to me. Her brown hair was thrown up into a bun, she had dark circles under her eyes from the mascara she'd forgotten to take off before bed, and she was wearing some shorts and an old looking hoodie. We were all obviously woken up from deep sleep by this stupid alarm.
"...Hey." I replied. This was the first time we'd talked since the group's fallout. Or more, since Weston and I were essentially banished from the group. It'd been so long since i'd talked to Kalynn. I missed her so much.
"You been okay?" She asked me.
"Not really." I said, truthfully. "You?"
She shrugged, then after a second, said; "'Don't think there's really a fire. I think it's a drill."
I looked at my phone. "What... a fire drill at quarter to 5 in the morning?"
"Kalynn!" Sam called, walking over. We turned to look at him, and he beckoned for her to join him and Olivia, completely ignoring me as if I wasn't even stood there. That hurt, coming from Sam.
"Come here!" Kalynn called to them.
Olivia looked at Kalynn as if she'd just admitted to a murder and asked for help to hide the body. I looked at Olivia then for a second, and thought how tired and lifeless she looked. I noticed the sweats she was in had been the same ones I'd seen her wearing the last couple times I'd seen her.
"You want some water, Olivia?" I asked her. She ignored me, turning away.
"Olivia?" I repeated.
"Sorry... just... give it some time." Kalynn said to me, putting her hand on my shoulder briefly before walking away towards the others.
"Guys, I'm on your side here, not his!" I said firmly. I really wanted to drive this point home to them, before they were gone again.
"Anais-" I turned to see Weston stood beside me. Before he could speak, a girl came out the building and called "Just a drill, everyone!, you can go back to bed!"
There was a collective groan before everyone started piling into the building again.
"Hey, Anais." Weston grabbed my shoulder to stop me walking away. I turned around and looked at him expectantly.
"Thanks for having my back through all this, I knew I could count on you." He said to me, and I rolled my eyes at him.
"No problem Weston, thanks for making all this happen in the first place by the way!" I replied, joining the queue of people to go back inside. "I just love guys who think with their dicks!"
"Ohh, So that's why Sam called me a dickhead yesterday." Weston followed behind me up the stairs.
"So not funny." I told him.We walked the final steps up towards the flat, and I unlocked the door and went inside.
"So when do y-" Weston started, but I walked ahead straight to my room, slamming my door.
The next day I hauled myself out of bed and turned up to that art society again. I noticed the guy with dark black hair and glasses staring at me again this time. I was gonna tell him to stop, or say hi, but I wasn't quite sure if I was imagining him staring at me or not.
