Haloween Store

I felt a little out of place.

I was tagging along with Weston, Kalynn and two of their friends who i'd never met before to the mall. A guy with long brown hair and glasses, and a tall skinny blonde guy. They both told me their names, but I'd somehow forgotten.

We were all finishing up eating lunch, and talking. "It'll be a sick party," Blonde-hair guy said. "You guys should totally come," He looked at Kalynn and I, "We need more cute girls to come." Kalynn snorted in response, and I didn't feel like giving any kind of response to the comment. I felt sort of annoyed at the idea of that being what I would bring to the table.

"Fine, fine I'll come then if you're that desperate." Weston said nonchalantly, finishing his last slice of pizza.

"Cool." Brown hair guy said. "Me and Justin" -he gestured at the blonde guy- " are gonna go as the twins from the shining. We got their dresses and everything, it'll be funny as fuck."

"It's a costume party?" I piped up.

"Well it's in two weeks so, it'll be on halloween." Justin said, as we all started to get up. Of course, I totally forgot it was so close. Shit, i didn't have any kind of costume.

The four of us walked around the mall for a while, doing nothing in particular other than just messing around in shops and stuff. Weston, Kalynn and the two guys seemed to have a lot of inside jokes, so a lot of the time I just felt like awkward baggage trailing behind them all. I hated that feeling.

"Alright guys, we gotta go meet our friend and go home now. See you at the party?" Said Justin.

"For sure!" Weston replied. "We'll all be there."

"Hey guys!" A familiar voice said, and I turned to see who had just said it to Justin and the other dude.

Toby.

I watched him give both the guys a fist bump, before turning to us. His eyebrows raised when he saw me. "Oh damn, Anais?" He said. "How you been."

"Good." I said bluntly, thinking about how he'd kissed me at that party. Thinking about his girlfriend dumping her drink on us. I thought that he looked so much uglier in the light of day, but maybe it was just how much of an asshole he seemed to be.

I guess i'd been giving Toby evil eyes, because Weston cleared his throat and said. "Kalynn, Anais, we better go look for some halloween costumes then, yeah?"

We walked away and they started talking about what costumes they might get. I zoned out of the conversation a little bit, and the three of us eventually approached a costume store and went in.

I poked around the shelves for anything interesting, but nothing stuck out to me. Witch and vampire costumes seemed to be every other thing, and they looked cheap and lame.

"OOH, Anais, come try a matching costume on with me?" Kalynn asked, grabbing my hand and a costume.

I stared in the mirror at the stupidly tight cop outfit. Honestly, it was pretty flattering, but I wouldn't feel comfortable at those guys party in just an objectifying costume.

I opened the curtain and stepped out to see Kalynn there wearing hers. "Oh my god so cute!" She said. "Weston what do you think?"

He looked at us, and I waited for some sarcastic comment, but he just said "Uhhh..."

Kalynn ignored his lack of response and turned to me. "So, wanna match?"
"I don't feel that comfortable in this to be honest." I told her.
"That's a shame, you look so hot. Well, i'll still wear mine." She replied, going back into a changing room.

I went into mine after assuring her she looked amazing in it- which was true.

After I came out I said hi to Weston and he avoided eye contact with me when he said hi back. I assumed he was just being rude and went back to looking around the store.

Eventually, I saw a matching cowboy hat and boots that actually looked super cute. I went straight over to them.

"Maybe I should be a cowgirl, or something." I said outloud.
"Yeah!" Kalynn and Weston said in unison from nearby.

I checked the boots and they happened to be my size, so I got them, along with a fake pistol and holster from another section, and we all went to the checkout. I didn't actually get to see what Weston bought.

When we got home I felt exhausted, so I said bye to them and went to the bathroom.

I tied up my hair and got in the shower, just having a quick one to freshen up. I rubbed my favourite vanilla soap allover me, humming.

When I got out, I bent down to pick up my towel. Then I walked towards the door, about to wrap the towel around me.

Suddenly the door opened, and Weston strolled in, before seeing me, his eyes went completely wide and he stopped dead in his tracks.

I shoved my towel in-front of my body as fast as I could, yelling "AHH! KNOCK, DUDE!", I could feel that my face was bright red.

"AHH! LOCK, DUDE!!" he responded, suddenly looking horrified as he did a 360 to turn the other way.

I slammed the door shut behind him and slid my back down it, facepalming.

"Why." I said outloud, wanting a hole to open up and swallow me. I'd never felt more embarrassed.
