I woke up to a knock on my door."Come in!" I called out, sitting up in bed and stretching.
"Anais!" Sam's curly hair poked around my door. "Hi!"
I invited him in and he came and sat on my edge of my bed. I leaned forwards to pull him into a hug.
"I missed you, man." He said
"I missed you too!"
"I'm so glad to be back, christmas with my parents was great and everything, but they get a bit...much sometimes."
"How so?" I asked, pulling my duvet off of me to get out of bed."I just don't get enough space, or privacy really. Even the bathroom doesn't have a lock."
"Yikes." I said, pulling on a sweatshirt.
"Yeah." He replied. "But anyways, how was your break? What's the Koury's like?"As I opened my mouth to answer, there was a knock on the door and Olivia stepped in.
"We're all going to the park, you guys should come, too!"
"Alright!" Sam replied, getting up."I'll meet you in a second." I told him, and he gave me a smile before they both left my room.
Quickly, I changed into jeans, and tried to fix myself up a little in the mirror, tying my hair up.
When I left my room, I looked to the side to see Weston leaving his at the same time. He was wearing a blue button up shirt and his brown corduroy jacket, he looked handsome. He smiled and gave me a little wave. I smiled and looked down.
"Let's go let's go!" Sam said, opening the front door and holding it for everyone. I was last out and Sam did a little jog to catch up with me walking down the stairs.
As we all walked to the park, the sun was just about to start setting. Sam and I trailed behind Kalynn, Weston and Olivia, who were lost in their own conversation.
"The Koury's was good, their parents are super nice. The house is really nice, like I'm not sure what they do for a living but, it was all big and white and wooden. Oh, and I met some of their friends, who were cool too. We all got drunk together and..." I trailed off.
"And..?" Sam asked, looking at me as we walked along side by side.
"What do you mean, 'and'?"
He gave me a look."What?" I laughed.
"So did you sleep in the room they lent you at all or just Weston's?"
"We didn't do anything!" I stopped walking for a second. "Why? did he say something?"
"No, Weston didn't say anything." My heart sank a little. If Weston did like me back, he would have told Sam. Sam's his best friend."I like him." I admitted. "I don't know when it happened, he just got on my nerves at first, but now I just want to be with him. All the time. Oh god."
"That's great! Have you told him?" Sam asked me.
"Well, not yet. We kissed, on halloween. Or more kind of, aggressively made out."
"I knew it!" Sam snapped his fingers. "I knew something happened between you two that night!"
"Shut up, please, I don't want them to hear." I said urgently.
"After we got home from that party I couldn't sleep, and I made Weston come out to get food with me super late. The whole time he was grinning non-stop but wouldn't tell me why. Just said he was in a good mood. I've seen him in a good mood over nothing and it's not like that at all.""Well that's how he makes me feel too, except when I'm sober."
"Aww, that's adorable."
"It's not adorable." I said, feeling frustrated. "The next day when we were carving pumpkins he said that he didn't even remember the party at all. Life went on like it never even happened."
"He wasn't even that drunk." Sam scoffed.
"Right!" I exclaimed, relieved to finally be opening up to someone else about this.
"You should really talk to him."And I did. We all walked together around the park as the sun set, until Olivia complained about the cold and asked to go back. Everyone headed back, but I asked Weston to sit with me on a park bench.
"I gotta talk to you." I told him, after the others disappeared.
"What's up, Anais?" He asked me, smiling.
"Do you remember, when we were at that halloween party, I found you upstairs and we, uh..." My voice grew a little quieter, and my eyes darted away to avert his gaze. "and we...made out... against the wall."
I looked back at him, and he looked a little nervous.
"...Yeah." He said, his voice quieter.
"So you DO remember." I confirmed out-loud. "but... you pretended you didn't remember. What was up with that?"
He shifted uncomfortably, glancing away from me. It made me feel a little queasy. "I assumed it was just... a... drunk mistake. I don't know. I didn't wanna make things... um... weird?"
I took in what he was saying, and looked out across the lake infront of us. "So was it? Was it weird?"
"I hope not." He replied.
The answer was confusing, and it wasn't what I'd wanted to hear. "I feel like when we drink, we come close to..." My voice trailed off, as I was trying to read his face. "Why don't you try to kiss me when you're sober?"
There was silence between us, and I looked over to see Weston staring down at his hands on his lap, and fidgeting with them nervously. I looked at the side profile of his face, handsome as ever, lit up in the orange sunset light. His expression was serious.
"Do you want me to kiss you when we're sober?" He asked, finally.
"I don't know." I said. I felt awkward, my face was hot. The thought that he could be embarrassed of me crossed my mind. I just wanted an answer, and this conversation had not gone how I wanted it to. "Honestly, Weston, Just forget it."
"What?" He asked, looking up at me as I got up.
"Just, this conversation is pointless, let's leave it, really. I'm going home."
He got up and rushed over to walk by my side.
"You're angry at me." He said.
"Weston, I said I don't want to talk about it. Seriously."
"Well, what if I do?" He asked.
"Well, I don't." I told him.
