Maze

I walked up towards my room, opening the door to walk in.

"Anais!" I heard Weston call, and I turned around to see him rushing up behind me, catching his breath.

"You left this." He said, holding out my backpack.

"Thanks." I said bluntly, grabbing it from him. Then silence fell between us, so I walked into my room.

As I closed my door Weston grabbed it at the last second so I couldn't, and said "There's some kind of horror maze thing on tonight that we're all going to, you'll come, right?"

He looked at me, and the hopeful look in his eyes made me have to suppress a grin. "Yeah, yeah I'll come." I told him.  "You better." He replied.

I went into my room and actually closed the door that time, opening my backpack and seeing that he'd put my pumpkin inside. I pulled it out and put it on my windowsill.

"So there's like, people dressed up all scary in here? And they actually chase you?" I asked, looking up at the entrance to the maze. The corn stood up high, stretching towards the black sky. I adjusted the left strap on my baggy dungarees a little, making sure it was secure.

"What, you scared?" Weston teased me, jabbing my side.

"What? no, not at all, I just wanna know what we're getting into here." I lied defensively. I was scared. Honestly, I felt downright anxious and wasn't sure why being chased around in a corn maze by a guy holding a chainsaw was anyone's idea of fun. I looked over at Weston, stood there in the dark. He looked so cute in his oversized faded orange sweater. He was chatting to Isabelle about something, his face lit up with that adorable smile of his.

"Guys let's get a move on then!" Kalynn insisted, starting to walk into the maze. Sam rushed along with Kalynn, saying "Last person to get out the other side is ordering pizza for everyone tonight."

"No way!" I shouted, knowing it would be me now that everyone had disappeared inside.

I walked into the maze, hugging my arms to my body in the cold night air, glancing around nervously. Okay, time to get through this stupid thing.

I trudged through the maze for a couple minutes, and It didn't take me long to completely forget where i'd come in.

'How big is this thing? How come I haven't run into anyone yet?' I thought. I kept my eyes wide open to see through the darkness. I could hear some talking somewhere not too far. Then a high pitched scream.

I turned around to see Isabelle running towards me, she grabbed my wrist as she did, pulling me with her. Then I realised she was being chased by a guy dressed up like a scarecrow. I screamed just like her then as we ran together.

After a couple turns I tripped over my feet, and fell forwards into the mud. Isabelle kept running, and disappeared around another corner in a flash. I panicked and hid in the corn, just as the scarecrow dude ran over, right past me, following where Isabelle had ran.

I breathed out heavily, climbing out of the corn back into the path again. Jesus, why was I so scared just then? My heart was racing in my chest. It felt too real. I needed to get out of here.

I kept going, barely able to see anything the darker it got.

Then I heard a loud revving sound behind me. I turned to see a tall guy dressed up in a mud stained clown outfit, mask and all, revving a chainsaw above his head. Logically, I knew it was fake, just a guy in a costume, just a fake prop with a sound effect, but my body reacted as if it was all real.
