Coffee

Olivia stumbled out of the lake onto the bank, panting. She ran some more strides before collapsing onto the mud, rain falling in buckets all over and around her. She reached up to the sky, dragging herself along, before fully collapsing down onto the ground.

"Cut!" Sam ordered, and I stopped recording her. "That was it, the final shot of this fucking film." he said, and everyone breathed a  collective sigh of relief.

"Thanks for all the help there guys." Sam called over to Weston and Kalynn, who were shouting and throwing mud at each-other in the pouring rain. Weston slipped in the mud and fell down, making them both erupt into fits of laughter. Either they hadn't heard Sam's sarcastic comment or just didn't care. I smiled to myself involuntarily when i heard their laughter, it was so wholesome.

Olivia got up and tried to wipe some mud off of herself, although she was covered. "Here, I bought you a sweater Olivia." I said, pulling a baggy sweater out of my bag and chucking it to her. She turned the other way to take off her top, and put on my sweater.

"Thanks." She said to me, as we all started the walk through the clearing in the trees that lead home.

I walked with Olivia in the front, and glanced back to look at Weston for a second. Him and Kalynn were lost in their own conversation. Sam jogged up beside us, and said "Weston better actually make our film good in editing, somehow."

"Hopefully." I said, adjusting my grip on my bag.

"So, do you guys think Olivia's character is dead or alive after it ends?" He asked.

"Well the whole point is that it's open to interpretation..." Olivia said. "...But in my head she lives."

"Dies for sure." I said, looking up at the rain running down all the amber leaves in the trees around the path.

It was sunrise now, we had to go out super early to get the final shots of the movie in the right lighting. I love fall. Fall is the best.

When we got back, the others hung out in the kitchen, and I went straight to my room.

I pulled off my soaked clothes and threw them into my washing basket, jumping in the shower. I put some music on my speaker and spent maybe half an hour in the shower. When I got out, I scrunched up my hair with some product as I dried it so it would have some curl in it.

I put on my favourite black skirt, some chunky knit tights, and my dark faded orange sweater, lying back in bed and opening my phone.

There was a knock on my door, and I said "come in."

Kalynn came in, and I sat up, smiling at her. She said "Do you wanna go get coffee with me and Weston in half an hour? The rain is meant to stop any minute now." She said.

"Sure." I replied, and she walked out as she said "See you in the kitchen in half an hour then!"

I had a nap for twenty-five minutes, then got up and went over to my closet.

I grabbed my favourite oversized washed black zip up jacket, and slipped on my old docs, since they were the most waterproof shoes I had.

I walked into the kitchen, where Kalynn and Weston were sitting on the couch.
"Why not, though?" He asked her, and they both looked up at me as I came in. Weston looked ready to go with a jacket, shoes and a knit beanie on, but Kalynn was just in sweats and a hoodie. "I feel kinda sick, I just wanna stay in now." She said.

"Awh, really?" I asked. She looked completely fine, but I guessed she had a headache or something. "Do you want me to pick up some painkillers?" I asked her.

"That's okay, I just wanna rest here." She said. "You guys go anyways."

Weston and I glanced at each-other awkwardly. We hadn't really talked since he walked in on me. "... You ready right now?" He asked after a second.

"Yeah." I replied, double checking I had my purse in my jacket pocket before we headed out.

We were both sort of quiet during the walk there, just making meaningless light hearted conversation. The rain had stopped, but it was still cold.

When we got there we both got iced coffee - his vanilla, mine pumpkin spice. Pumpkin spice is basic for a reason, it's too good.

We left, and Weston took my cup out of my hands, saying, "Can I try?", but trying my drink before I could even answer. "Sure." I said, pointlessly. I took his and had some so we'd be even.

"So, did you actually get a halloween costume when we went to that store?" I asked him. I could feel that my nose and the tips of my ears would be going pink in the cold air.

"Yeah, you'll have to wait and see, dude." He said, sipping his coffee.

"What, it's that good you're keeping it a secret?" I asked.

"Yeah, I definitely a have one, I'm not just saying that because I'm not creative enough or because i'm too lazy to come up with a costume idea or anything like that. I don't know where you'd even get that idea from, Anais."

"Right." I laughed.

We walked and talked for a bit longer, before it suddenly started to rain pretty hard out of nowhere.

"Awh man, I literally just washed my hair." I complained, "it's gonna go all messed up."

"Do you wanna wear my hat?" He asked me.

Instinctually I replied, "no don't worry that's okay!" I hopped over a puddle which was already starting to form since the rain was so heavy.

"Why? It'll keep your hair dry." He said, his voice louder now over the sound of the rain hitting the pavement.

"It's fine, Weston! it's only a ten minute walk from here!" I said back.

"Just shut up." He told me as he stopped walking. I stopped too. He pulled off his beanie and put it on my head. It covered my eyes, and I giggled.

He folded it up out of my eyes, and I looked up at him. Rain was running down his face as his hair started to get wetter.

We stood there, so close to each-other. He wiped a drop of rain off of my cheek with his thumb. I swallowed, my smile fading away now, my eyes fixed on his face.

In that moment he was prettier than any painting or song or skyline i'd ever seen.

He pulled my long hair to the front and tucked it inside my jacket, zipping it up all the way. "There you go. It'll stay dry." I felt an aching in my chest as all I wanted to do was lean forwards and hug him.

He flashed me a smile, and kept walking.

I had to jog to catch up, and I stuffed my hands in my pockets as I walked next to him.

When we got in, Weston pushed his wet hair out of his face, and told me he was gonna go have a shower.

I went to my room, and closed the door behind me. I looked in my mirror, then realised I was still wearing his forest green  beanie. I pulled it off and looked at it. It looked all faded and washed, as comfy as it felt. I smelt it, and it smelt like him.

God, I'm such a creep, smelling his clothes. I thought. If he knew, he'd be so weirded out.

I put it down in my draw and closed it. Time to focus on anything else for the rest of the day. I wished I wasn't becoming so attached to a guy that wasn't even mine.
