POV: Rex

"My name is Calamitous, and I am the brother of Snow," Mendax said with a smile that caused Rex to shiver.

The Prince was in his Griffin form and felt a weird sensitization. It was similar to his bones being on fire, but it did not exactly hurt. Rex looked at Mendax smiling, his short black mane and tall frame made it appear that he was taller than most animals.

The sun started to become more intense as Mendax's grin grew wider. It was odd to see as Rex only knew a few creatures could control the weather.

*Calamitous? Snow had a brother?* The Prince thought as he tried to think if he missed anything in history. Rex closed his eyes, doing his best, but nothing came to him.

"Don't appear to stress, little Prince. Sun, sorry, King Sun made sure that I wouldn't make it into history." Calamitous/Mendax explained. "That Dragon was nothing but pride."

Rex thought was cut short by Calamitous/Mendax's words. That is when he remembered something that happened when the three were on Griffin's island. In Claws's cave, there was writing on the wall that neither Kadupul nor Mendax could see or feel.

It all made sense now.

The writing had to come from Feather. Rex had a hunch about it. However, now he knew that the Griffin was referring to Calamitous in some of the entries.

What he didn't understand was why none of them could see it.

"Wait, why are you showing yourself now?" Kadupul asked, causing Rex to lower his wing to hide her. She remained still as Calamitous/Mendax smirked.

Currere shuffled over to Swamp, and her tail wrapped around the Swamp Monster's hind leg. Rex noticed that Cursor took a fighting stance. However, despite their behavior, the Angel did not appear threatened as he continued to talk.

"You wouldn't know how long it was to wait. I have always been waiting, and my luck changed." The Angel started walking closer to Rex and stood mere three feet in front of him. "The day of Rex's birth made me hopeful as it awoke me. Normally, my sleep can last hundreds of years as watching history slowly pass gets boring. However, the Prince woke me up, and you know what?" Calamitous/Mendax asked.

Silence followed. Even the birds for once kept their beaks shut.

Calamitous/Mendax shrugged causing the wings to go up and down. "On the day that Rex was born had started to weaken the spell that was placed on me." He explained despite no one asking for the backstory.

Eyes fell upon the Prince again, and he hated it.

Rex hated the attention and hated the feeling that it was somehow his fault. Negative thoughts started to swirl, and he could hardly pay attention to the conversation.

"But why attack us? We did nothing to you?" Swamp was the only other brave one to speak."It doesn't make sense. Mendax, I thought you were... " Kadupul barked.

"Friend? Haha." He interrupted her, causing Darwin's fox to jump. "You never saw me as a friend, little fox." The Angel turned his head towards Swamp. "I just needed some minions to do my dirty work. I never thought that Volatus or Hebes would go this far as betraying me. Well, that is a lie." Calamitous spoke, calmly as if he had all this planned, but Rex felt rage coming from the Angel. "I knew this would happen."

And the rage was growing by the second.

The emotion was intense, and the Prince could not even compare it to any emotion he or his family felt. Rex gulped as the eyes of Calamitous/Mendax were dark in color.

Suddenly, the feeling disappeared, and Rex looked at Kadupul, who was leaning on him before and was now standing on her own.

*I wonder?* Rex thought as he subtly moved his paw slightly to tap Kadupul's leg. The fox's head turned to look at him but did not move away. Rex felt Calamitous/Mendax rage again. *This is strange but cool.* Kadupul smiled before looking back at the Angel.
