It'd be weird to call him. . .He and I aren't even friends. . .He'd probably be creeped out. . .

Turning off my phone, I set it away, Laying down fully on the blanket bed I had made, The fire making light dance over the hound and I as I gently ran my fingers through the knotted fur of the dog.

''You're so friendly. . .Wonder why you're just wandering through the woods. . .You hardly behave like a stray'' I commented idly, My eyes drooping slightly with exhaustion.

The dog rested it's head on my chest, Letting out a content sigh as it did so, It's bright yellow eyes watching me.

A fond, Tired smile formed on my face as I rested a little ways away from the fire, It's warmth and light soothing, The rain continuing to patter quietly in the background, Joining the crackling fire in a wild, Quiet song.

Every now and then, Thunder would rumble in a rolling wave, Covering all other sounds and leaving a quiet ringing in my ears for a second or two.

I only heard two or three rumbles before I was out cold, Fast asleep.

--- Time skip ---

Something cold and damp pressed against my neck, Making me jolt awake with a small shiver.

Golden eyes stared up at me from where the dog was standing, It's tail wagging and it's tongue hanging out, As if it was silently laughing at my startled reaction.

Letting out a shaky chuckle, I smiled at the darkly colored hound, The adrenaline that had been running through me was settling down now that I knew what woke me. . .Leaving me a bit loopy.

''Mornin' buddy'' I groaned out, A laugh bubbling up inside me as my new canine friend nearly knocked me over with a gentle headbutt, Drawing a surprised gasp from me.

Shaking my head, I smiled, Surprised at the pupper's strength.

''Well aren't you a strong boy'' I murmured, Gently scratching him behind his ears as he nuzzled against me for a moment.

After I finished speaking, He backed off, Letting me get up.

Groaning, I stretched my arms out above my head, My body sore from sleeping on the hardwood floor.

''You want some breakfast?'' I questioned, Making my way to the tiled kitchen as the large dog Followed at my heels. . .

Can it even be considered 'Following at my heels' when his head reaches my chest?

Grabbing the bowls from before, I gave the dog more jerky and water before fixing myself some cereal for breakfast.

Since my furniture still had yet to arrive, I just leaned up against the kitchen counter as I ate, Watching the dog do something similar.

It was nice, Just calmly eating in the sunlit kitchen, The air still faintly smelling of wood smoke from the fireplace.

This is a nice place. . .Ignoring the whole murderer thing. . .Mom would have loved this place. . .

She had grown up in a small town just like this one. . .She always loved towns that were small and as close knit as this one seems to be. . .

Dad wouldn't have liked it nearly as much seeing as he was a pretty private person. . .But he would endure his dislike. . .Just to see mom smile. . .They both would always compromise to make the other happy. . .
