Well this chapter has been long overdue. . .
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Mentally shaking myself off, I turned on my car and pulled out onto the road.
Well, They're the professionals, Trust them to know what to do I guess.
The drive to my new, Old home, Was quite peaceful, All things considered.
I passed very few people in the quiet and very small sea side town.
Most of them either heading to or going from the slightly larger town up the road, At a more friendlier, Less sharp rock littered shore line.
Couldn't really blame them, Was a much wiser move, Not many people wanted to risk either twisting and ankle or factory resetting their brains just to step outside their house.
I, However, Was not one of those wise people.
Driving down the long, Tree lined driveway that led to my home, I couldn't really help the nostalgic feelings that bubbled up inside me.
My sister and I would always run down the trampled dirt trail that made up the drive, Pretending we were wild horses stampeding, Or outlaws on the run, Eventually veering off the path and diving into the pine filled woods.
We'd always end up finding some patch of mud or clay or other items that would end with us returning home, A complete mess and covered in pine needles.
Shaking myself out of my nostalgic daze, I smiled sadly at the fond memories as I pulled up in front of the overgrown house.
Bit of a mess. . .But nothing a few days of weeding and basic repair can't fix!
My heart hurt a tiny bit as I walked up to the front door, Thinking about what dad would have said if he saw the state this place was in.
Unlocking the front door, I stepped inside, A sigh leaving me as the smell of the stale and old air hit me.
Alright, First thing's first, Time to open the windows, Let in some fresh air and get the dust out. . .
- - - Time skip - - -
An exhausting day's worth of work later, I had most all the dust cleaned off of the main areas of the house, Allowing me to exist in there without dying of allergies.
Sighing quietly, I paused what I was doing to sneeze a few dozen times, My sinuses utterly fucked up by said cleaning.
Well, If I leave the windows open a bit and let this place air out, It shouldn't be too bad to sleep here tonight.
Wiping some sweat from my brow, I headed outside, Deciding that it'd be nice to breath in the salty fresh sea air for a bit instead of just the musty stale air of the home my dad repaired for me as a child.
Stepping outside, I made my way over to my car, Mindful to not step on the wildflowers that had taken up residence in what used to be a packed earth driveway.
They're so pretty, Maybe if I'm careful enough, I can transplant them elsewhere. . .
Getting in my car, I smiled contently, Sitting sideways on the seat with my legs kicking slightly in the gentle breeze coming from the nearby cliff side.
I could hear the distant calls of gulls and sea birds as the waves crashed up against the stones, A quiet peaceful background melody that soothed my mind in a familiar and calming way.
A quiet little 'ding' noise drew my attention to my phone.
Picking it up, I read over the missing person alert that had popped up on my phone.
'A man by the name of Jaxson Williams disappeared last night while driving down county road thirteen, Both the man and his car has left no trace.'
Wasn't that the same road I was driving on last night?
Frowning, I put my phone back away, Silently sending out a mental prayer for the safety of the mystery man.
Well, As cruel as it is to think this. . .I am grateful it was him and not me who disappeared without a trace. . .
Putting my phone back away, I spent a few more moments just listening to the sounds around me until my heartbeat was slowed and calm.
Letting out a relaxed sigh, I got back out of the car and made my way back inside, Humming quietly to myself as I made my way upstairs.
While I had gotten the important rooms cleaned downstairs, I still had the upstairs left to go.
Might as well get it done while I still have the motivation to do so or else I won't get to it until a week or so later.
It was nice to see some of the things that had been forgotten here during my childhood, The little trinkets and toys with so much care and importance behind them.
A line of tiny snail shells and sun bleached bits of drift wood were scattered out across the dresser in the chaotic patterns that only make sense to little kids.
Gently, I trailed my index finger over the smooth homes, Soon spotting a bucket in the corner of the room, Covered in towels and dust.
Is that what I think it is?
Excitedly, I went over to the bucket, Sitting down crisscross applesauce in front of it as I lifted the dust covered towel off of the items inside.
Jingle shells clinked about inside, Disturbed by my rough movement.
Smiling fondly at the childhood memories of climbing the rock littered shore to gather all these shells.
Woah, They're more colorful and vibrant then I remember. . .
Gently, I ran my fingers through the shells, Listening to them clink together like a bunch of low quality bells.
Suddenly, I felt the odd urge to head down to the shore for a little swim.
Hmm. . .I do kind of want to take a break from cleaning anyways. . .
As I was getting up, A small, Leather bound notebook shoved partly under the old bed in here caught my eye.
Odd. . .I don't remember that book. . .
Soft cries of animals filtered in through the opened windows, A soft, Almost musical tune joining in on the symphony.
I'm glad I'm home. . .
