-:Faer's room:-

Faer gave me a gentle, Encouraging smile, And just like that, I felt some of the tension leave my shoulders.

''You don't have to-'' I started to politely protest, Only for him to wave off said protest.

''Nonsense, My companion who was supposed to join me tonight missed our meeting so I have a spare bed in my room anyways'' He assured me, Already starting to herd me towards his room's open door and the warm, Inviting light beyond it.

''Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. . .I hope they're alright'' I murmured, Concern in my voice.

Hope whoever they are that they're not driving at this hour. . .

''Oh I'm sure he's fine, I'll be honest. . .He's a bit of a jerk. . .There's a good chance he just decided not to show up. . .Won't be the first time he's done that before'' Faer chuckled out, His grin happy but a bit awkward upon closer inspection.

Awkward in the way someone who's just been stood up can only be.

''Guess he's missing out on the fun then huh?'' I questioned with a hesitant laugh, Trying to lighten to mood as best I could.

Faer grinned back at me, Flopping down in the stained, Tattered leather chair this room had shoved in a corner, Picking up a leather bound journal, Bursting at the sides with so many pages as he did so.

''Hell yeah he is! He can miss out on the fun parts of our work trips if he's going to be a jerk!'' Faer laughed out, Putting the journal away in a fairly large, Canvas messenger bag that was leaning up against the side of said chair.

''Yikes, A work trip this far out in the middle of nowhere?'' I murmured, Feeling sympathetic for the poor man across from me.

Faer chuckled at that, An honest smile blooming on his face.

''Ah it's not so bad, We're coming out here to. . .Document some of the wildlife, My partner works for the government and I'm a scientist so it's gonna be. . .It's at least not going to be boring!'' Faer chuckled out, Making me blink in surprise.

Oh! They must work for the DNR!

''Oh! What kind of wildlife are you looking for?'' I questioned excitedly, Still remembering the exciting creatures I'd find while exploring when my family and I would come out here during the spring.

The man across from me blinked once before his grin widened.

''Any kind! Every kind, Well. . .Mostly we're just out here to try and document as much of the coastal wildlife as we can'' He explained with the excitement of a young child talking about their newest fixation.

''That sounds like an impossible task for only two people'' I pointed out, A secondhand smile still on my lips from the joy of the other man.

''Oh I'm sure it would be! But thankfully, My jerk of a partner and I are only going to be working this alone for a week while the rest of our team moves our research base out this way, Bosses wanted people on the ground as soon as possible so that's how I ended up doing this. . .And what about you? What's drawing you to this deceptively barren place?'' Faer chuckled out, His voice just. . .So nice to listen to.

''Ah, Nothing so. . .Noble as documenting the wildlife'' I sighed out, Awkwardly rubbing at the back of my neck as Faer ushered me over to one of the beds, Sitting on the one across from me as he did so.

The dark skinned man across from me just rested his head in his hands and waited for me to continue, A patient interest on his face.

''Just. . .Moving back to a childhood home to get away from a. . .Rather violent ex'' I nervously explained, Waiting for the typical pity most people showed upon such a confession.

But the man across from me had no such reaction, Instead, He winced slightly in sympathy at that before nodding thoughtfully.

''Well, Can't think of a better place to hide away and reinvent yourself than this. . .That is, Of course, If you don't mind the cold'' He pointed out, A small smile forming on his face by the end.

''And storms. . .So many storms'' I added on, The two of us falling silent for a long moment before both of us let out quiet little huffs.

''So, Any interesting places to visit around here? So far I've only seen run down gas stations and rocks. . .Many many rocks'' Faer questioned, Tilting his head ever so slightly as he spoke.

Pursing my lips slightly, I thought about it for a moment.

Is there things around here to do other than wander in the woods?

''Well, You can't really explore the shores safely right now since it's storm season, But once it lets up you can find all sorts of cool and stunning things washed ashore. . .And-'' I explained as Faer listened on.

He and I swapped stories about our hometowns until both of us were more than exhausted and the night was so late not even the other people around us were making noises.

Every now and then, He'd jot something down in one of his apparently many leather bound notebooks at seemingly random statements from me.

It was. . .Odd, But who was I to question someone who seems to be a scientist that probably works for the DNR.

By now the room was dark, The light turned off and the only light in the room being what little light from the neon sign outside seeping in between the curtains.

Faer was sleeping peacefully by now, His lips parted ever so slightly on silent snores, Curled up on his side and snuggled down under the semi thin Motel bed sheets.

I was near the loving and sweet embrace of sleep as well when a noise proceeded to disturb me.

A quiet, Unassuming 'thump' sound, Which drew my attention towards Faer's bag.

Said bag which had fallen on the floor, Spilling one single notebook out.

One leather bound, Page filled notebook.
