Selected choice: -:Motel:-
------------------------------------------------------------
I better not risk it. . .Driving while impaired is how people die after all. . .
Turning on my turn signal, I slowed down, Pulling into the. . .Rather ramshackle place.
Is. . .This place even up to code?
Stepping out of my car, I very much doubted any safety or building inspector passed this place off their list.
It was clearly too dark out for me to see the full extent of disrepair this place was in. . .But what I could see wasn't too nice.
Bars covered the windows and cracks spread out over the walls.
Walking past one of them, I was very alarmed to cross paths with a dark grey mouse using a crack to get into one of the rooms.
O-kay then. . .I. . .Guess it could be worse?
Trying to stay optimistic, I looked around at the two story motel building, Trying to find something good about this place.
There were four different 'sections' of the motel.
Two upper levels and two lower levels on either side of the 'sign in'/office building.
Was. . .Was this place even supposed to be a motel to begin with?
Left lower rooms were numbered twenty one to thirty. . .All the doors were shut and the curtains closed, No one had their lights on. . .One door had some sort of liquid slowly seeping out from under it even.
Ah. . .Nightmare fuel :)
Making a quiet 'Welp' sound, I forced myself to look up towards the second story and ignore the leaking door.
This is fine. . .My brain's just tired and messing with me. . .
Numbers thirty one to forty were right above the twenties. . .Surprisingly, They looked much more welcoming.
The lights on in the rooms, Making the closed curtains glow ever so slightly with the light from within, A warm golden light that kinda made the night seem. . .A little less scary.
One room up there didn't have a light on, But it also didn't appear to have anyone inside, The room next to it providing such a stark difference with it's curtains open and the vague form of a person sitting on a chair just barely being able to be seen from the ground.
Are they reading? Looks like it. . .That's sweet, Surprising they aren't sleeping though with how late it is.
Glancing over at the right side, The cozy sweet feeling was instantly dashed.
Lower levels were numbered one to ten, Again, Doors and curtains all closed. . .Except for the last room. Where someone was peering out of the curtains, Watching me.
I could distantly see multiple people inside past the glaring man.
Ah. . .Lovely. . .My organs are going to be stolen aren't they. . .
The upper levels weren't much better, Eleven to twenty. . .A man with black colored clothes and something silver and glinting held in his hands.
. . .Well then!
Swallowing down my fear, I approached the small single story building between the two sides of the motel, Mentally reminding myself all the while that sleeping in my car wouldn't be much better.
Hey, Gotta look on the bright side. . .Maybe all I'll have to deal with is rats and roaches. . .Who knows, Maybe these other people are just having a hard night too.
Mom always liked to say that you never know what kind of hell other people are going through.
She's a doctor, Like my Grandpa used to be and she made sure that her kids knew in the end, When it come down to it, There is no difference between the people you pass on the street, Down on their luck and us.
We're all human, We're all just stumbling through life, Trying to survive, Trying to create a life for ourselves from the chaotic space dust we came from.
Despite all that. . .I highly doubted anyone would have a good reason to be peering out between their curtains well past midnight all the while your room is filled with people.
Well. . .Hopefully the empty rooms aren't near them. . .Or the room leaking that thick liquid. . .Or the one with the black clad man. . .You know. . .Maybe there's a backside to this motel. . .Or I could sleep in a closet?
Sighing quietly, I stepped into the small office building sat right between both sides of the motel.
It wasn't much better in here. . .Everything was still in disrepair. . .But at least there weren't any shady characters around. . .
Actually. . .Other than a potentially still alive cockroach, This building was empty.
A very much rusty bell set on the only desk in the building, The sign next to it saying 'Ring for servace'.
Interesting spelling. . .
Pulling my sleeve down over my hand, I very cautiously tapped the top of the bell, A small part of me mentally worrying about the last time I had a tetanus shot.
This place. . .Seems like a breeding ground for so many things. . .
Case in point. . .I could distantly see two mice working to add to the mouse population here.
Oh. . .LoVeLy. . .
Before I could really get any more disgusted by this place, Someone emerged from a door behind the desk.
A tall, Wraithlike man stepped up to the desk, His sunken, Dark brown colored eyes boring into mine, Unblinkingly.
We both stared silently at each other for a long, LONG time.
His hair was black and slightly shiny, Providing a shocking contrast to his . . .Honestly unhealthily pale skin.
It was braided and long enough that I couldn't see where it ended with him facing me.
He was wearing a plain white, Long sleeve dress shirt with a dark green vest over top.
The vest had tiny little skulls and bones embroidered on it, Interwoven with golden colored flowers/plants.
When he made no move to speak, Or even stop staring at me, I quietly cleared my throat, Making him jump ever so slightly.
''Yes?'' He rasped out, His expression a tiny bit dazed.
''Do you happen to have any rooms available?'' I asked, Keeping my voice quiet and gentle.
He might have been working all day. . .Probably tired. . .Poor guy, Hope he can get some rest. . .
The man's gaze seemed to sharpen ever so slightly before going back to his prior dazed state.
''Yeah we've got. . .Four'' He murmured, Reaching for a drawer and pulling out four keys.
23 - 40 - 9 - 12
Ah. . .Lovely. . .
