Do you guys really want him poisoned or something?

''Um. . .'' I started meekly, Holding onto the bowl that had just been shoved into my hands.

It'd be rude not to accept, Especially since I was more or less intruding in her brother's home.

''T-Thank you ma'am'' I squeaked out politely, Taking a small bite of a spoonful of the greenish brown soup.

I barely swallowed the spoonful before the spice in it made me choke.

''Woah'' I managed to gasp between choked sounds as I placed the apparently very spicy soup down on the nearby counter, My eyes watering as my mouth burned.

''You okay there?'' Elena questioned, Sounding like she was holding back a laugh as she spoke.

''I'm fine. . .Just- Spicy!'' I gasped out, Gratefully accepting the offered glass of cold milk the dark skinned woman held out for me.

''Heh, Don't like spice much?'' She chuckled out, Seemingly endlessly amused by my suffering.

''P-People actually willing eat that?'' I questioned, Forgetting my manners for a second.

My little pain fueled outburst earned me a genuinely friendly smile from the woman.

''Nope, Dario and I have a little challenge going on between the two of us to see who can eat the spiciest food'' She explained, Moving over to take the very much unfinished bowl from me before dumping it down the sink.

''Please. . .Please don't kill Dario he's a really nice man'' I whispered, Drawing a cackled laugh from her.

''My brother knows damn well what he signed up for, Either he will wisely give in and admit defeat or he will die with honor!'' Elena declared with the cruel glee in her voice that only siblings can use.

I opened my mouth, About to say. . .Something, When a familiar low voice spoke up.

''You say that like you think you're gonna win'' Dario chuckled out, Joining his sister and I in the kitchen.

There were a few scratches on his arms now, If I were to guess. . .Due to my bastard of a hound.

''I. . .I don't think anyone can survive what she just cooked up'' I pointed out, Earning another laugh from the woman who may or may not be the female version of Satan.

''I like your friend'' She called back to the two of us as she made her way back over to the stove.

''For crying out loud. . .You doing okay? She knows how to make the most inhumanly hot food possible'' Dario murmured quietly, No doubt noticing how flushed I was after my 'ordeal'.

I gave him a shaky smile which earned me a stifled chuckle from him.

''Why don't I show you to the guest room so you can settle in a bit. . .It's been a pretty long night for you'' He murmured, His voice softening as he gently herded me deeper into his house.

''Thank you again. . .You really didn't have to go out of your way like this'' I whispered as he led me to a small room with a single person bed in it.

''Blaze, Seriously, You don't have to keep thanking me. . .We look out for others here and no offense, You seem like the type of person who needs looking out for'' Dario murmured, Gently patting me on the back before turning and starting to head back to the kitchen before pausing.

''Oh!, My room is right next door if you need anything, Don't hesitate to ask'' He called back before continuing back to his sister.

Some of the tension left my shoulders at how safe I felt with him nearby.

He's so kind and patient. . .Going out of his way to make sure I was okay even when he could be putting himself in danger. . .

Sitting down on the edge of the bed, I smiled sadly.

Mom and Dad would have loved Dario. . .Probably his sisters too. . .

Sighing, I shook my head before heading back to the kitchen.

Upon stepping back into the clean and tiled room, I was greeted with the sight of Dario and his sister both red in the face and staring each other in the eye while slowly eating their bowls of the hellishly spicy soup.

''You're actually eating that. . .Willingly?'' I questioned quietly, Earning a wicked. . .If not pained smile from Elena and a quiet groan from Dario.

''If I let her win she will never shut up about it'' He explained before slowly taking another bite of the soup, Making me wince in sympathy as he swallowed it.

''Hey, So how old are you anyways? Twenty three? Twenty five?'' Elena questioned as Dario rested his head against the table, Groaning in pain.

''What the hell did you even put in this Leena?'' He gasped out as I sympathetically patted his back.

''I'm nineteen actually'' I awkwardly said, Making Elena's head snap in my direction.

''Nineteen? As in one and nine?'' At my nod, She frowned, Her agony seemingly mostly forgotten by now.

''Why did you move all the way out here then? Shouldn't you still be living near your family?'' She questioned, Drawing a groan from Dario as he raised his head.

I found myself nervously looking down at my shoes, Not really wanting to open that can of worms and be faced with. . .Pity.

''Drop it Elena.'' He quietly growled out, Making both her and I fall quiet, Ending the conversation.

Before the following silence could become awkward, My hound started to bark from wherever Dario put him.

''How do you even get any sleep with that stray of yours constantly being noisy?'' Dario questioned as he got up, Grimacing slightly as he spoke.

''That's a good question'' Was my response as he led me out to the garage where my hound was, Glaring at us from inside an old dog crate.

''I've probably got a muzzle somewhere around here that we can put on him to keep him quiet tonight'' Dario murmured as he went to rummage around in one of the rather neatly organized plastic totes in the garage.

If I didn't know better I'd say my hound looked scared by the concept.

''That's probably for the best'' I agreed, Oddly enough earning a glare from the dog.

Well. . .He shouldn't have been barking then. . .
