Truth Of Love (Simon Blackquill x Wife! Reader)

A/N: Storytime at the end of this chapter.

Your Pov:

I sat in the agency with Athena. She sat next to me, eyeing me intently. "So you don't care? At all?" I shook my head. "I could care less Athena. We never really knew each other and never got the chance to. He's a stranger to me." She frowned. "A stranger? He's your husband!"

I stood. "But you know how that happened, don't you? Put yourself in my shoes and really think about it, Athena." I turned and left the agency, ignoring Athena's calls.

...

Athena watched you go, falling silent. Once the door shut, Phoenix spoke up. "What were you two talking about? We aren't divorce lawyers, Athena." Athena shook her head. "No. That was (Y/n). She's my older cousin and Simon's wife." Phoenix flinched. "W-Wife?! But why were you arguing with her about him? And she said he was a stranger to her."

Athena sighed, Widget turning blue. "Her and Simon met when my mother barely started working at the space center. Our family thought my mother wouldn't be successful there, so once they heard about Simon, they urged (Y/n) to marry him." Phoenix tilted his head. "But Prosecutor Blackquill doesn't seem like the type to jump into marriage. And why him anyways?"

Athena continued. "Simon would've came into a lot of money, being a prosecutor. And once my mother became his mentor, it sealed the deal. The two of them were married, but then...you know what happened. When they married, they barely knew anything about each other besides their jobs, ages, and names." Phoenix nodded. "I see. So then why doesn't she divorce him?" Athena shrugged. "I'm not sure. The one time I asked, she just said it was too complicated to do, with the prison and everything."

The two continued to talk, trying to work out a plan as they did so.

...

(To your Pov after Athena's arrest)

I entered the visitation room and sat down. The days were numbered and I had to be prepared. I watched from the other side of the glass as Simon entered. He sat down and the guard left the room. I spoke. "Have you been able to question Athena?" He shook his head. "No. They have the detectives questioning her to avoid any problems."

I sighed. "Well, that's not what I came here to discuss. Tomorrow is..." He nodded. "Tomorrow, all of my assets will go to you. You'll get the money you so desperately wanted." I looked away. "It was never about the money." Simon looked at me. "So our marriage wasn't about money? I find that hard to believe. Your family-" I cut him off. "It wasn't just my family. You agreed to it to get closer to my aunt! By marrying me, you had a free ride to psychology!"

Simon paused. "...I cannot deny that, but that was only part of my reasoning." I tilted my head. "Only part? What else is there?" He huffed. "I wouldn't have married you if I didn't feel anything for you. But it's clear to see that you don't feel the same." I closed my eyes for a moment. "Don't do this, Simon. Tomorrow, I'll be a widow. But I don't want to be a widow with a broken heart."

Simon looked towards the window. "Maybe, in another life, things wouldn't end like this. But I want you to know the truth. I have loved you forever and I do not regret it." I swallowed the lump in my throat. "Stop it, Simon. Please. My heart can't handle losing you again."

I continued. "And besides. You don't love me, Simon. I know you don't. You never did." Simon looked at me. "I do love you. And that is the truth. If I truly didn't love you, I wouldn't be sitting here now." I shivered as a tear rolled down my cheek. "...If you truly love me, you wouldn't do this." Simon's shackles rattled. "I have to do this. I have to protect her."

I stood. "Then, this is goodbye Simon. I'll be expecting Taka and the rest of your possessions tomorrow." Without another word, I turned and left the detention center.

We had married as strangers, but Simon would die as my husband while I lived as a widow.

That's when I realized...

Selfish choices only create selfish outcomes.

A/N: Storytime! So, I almost fought with an old lady in Walmart. I was literally minding my own business when this old lady comes up to me. I'm in the health aisle by the way. Anyways, she starts harping on how young and pretty I am. I just tell her thanks and keep ignoring her. She then continues and brings up the overturning of Roe V. Wade. And then she says, I kid you not, "It's so sad that these pretty young girls don't want to keep their babies."

I ignore her and start walking away. As I get to the end of the aisle, she calls out to me, while people are in the aisle, "If you support them, you're going to h*ll!" I ignore her and go on my way. Luckily, I didn't see her again, but that just ruined my whole day. And it reminded me of why I don't like people.

Ok, storytime over!
