No Refusal (Yandere! Barok Van Zieks x Reader)
Your Pov:
I sat in Barok's office, sipping tea as we spoke. We did this often, just enjoying each other's company and presence. But recently, Barok had changed. He was more stern and overly protective. Any time I wanted to go into town with Ryuu, Kazuma, or even Susato, Barok would tell me that it wasn't safe and that I'd end up getting hurt.
Because of this, I felt inclined to seek his company. This caused me to distance myself from everyone else.
I was knocked out of my thoughts by Barok's voice. "(Y/n)...have you thought of your future?" I hummed. "I haven't put much thought into it. Why do you ask?" He sipped his tea. "I spoke with your parents previously. I asked for your hand in marriage, offering nothing but my unwavering love for you. They declined my offer..."
I paused. "...Marriage? Why didn't you ask me about this first?" He sighed. "Your family...they think that I will break your heart and abandon you. They thought that I would never be good enough for you." I tilted my head. "Thought...?" A strange look appeared in his eyes. "Even with their first rejection, I could not give up. I knew about your family's hardships, so I made them an offer they couldn't refuse." I was quiet.
He continued. "I offered them enough money to keep them comfortable for a lifetime. They accepted without hesitation. They assured me that you would go through with it. And I'm sure they wouldn't break their promise." The teacup in my hand began to shake. I looked at him. "Barok, I.."
He continued. "My love, I want nothing more than to stay by your side eternally. And I'd hope you'd want the same. You know that I'd never hurt you." I looked down at my lap. "Barok...I am not sure of your words. I have seen how ruthless you can become and...it scares me."
He shook his head. "My ruthlessness extends only to my enemies. The idea of seeing you in any pain disturbs me greatly. But...if it was to save your life, to keep you from death's grip, I would do whatever was necessary, even if it hurt." I swallowed the lump in my throat. "What do you mean?"
He looked straight into my eyes. "Well, if for whatever reason, you had a deep wound on your leg that was bleeding profusely, I would tear off my own coat, use it to wrap your wound, and even use my wine as a disinfectant. If I had to hurt you to save your life, I would do so." I put my teacup down. "I see..."
He continued. "But as for those who may try to hurt you...I'd show no mercy to them. They would understand why I am known as the reaper." I looked at him. "May I have some time to think? This is all so very sudden."
He nodded. "Of course, my dear. It is not often that I make generous offers such as these." I knew what he meant by those words.
'Your family accepted my offer, therefore, you have to marry me'
I loved Barok, but this just felt so sudden. And to bribe my family with money for my hand wasn't right. But at the same time, I couldn't let my family get hurt if I refused to marry him.
There truly was no refusal here.
