To Protect (Various x Nahyuta's Sister! Reader)

A/N: Reader is 18, 4 years older than Rayfa!

Your POV:

I stood in my room, looking at myself in the mirror. Today we were rehearsing for my coronation. I had turned 18 a few months ago and had exemplary spiritual power, making me ready to ascend to the throne.

The whole country was a buzz with news of the coronation. The bazaar was decorated from end to end.

Mr. Wright had also came back to attend the coronation, which made me glad. Apollo and the rest of the defiant dragons would be in attendance as well, helping to keep Dhurke's memory alive.

A knock from my door snapped me out of my thoughts. The door opened and Nahyuta stepped inside. "We're ready in the main hall." I looked at him. "Alright. Let's go." We walked downstairs in silence, hearing only the hushed mumbling of those in the main hall.

As we made it to the doors, Nahyuta turned to me. "Wait here. They'll introduce you." He went inside, leaving me alone. I stared at the door, thinking. Soon, I would be the queen of an entire country and its people.

I gripped the skirts of my dress. Pinks and blues alternated, decorated with images of the water lily and butterflies. From inside the room, I heard his magistry introduce me. "Her prominence and royal priestess, (Y/n) Padma Khura'in!" The doors opened and I walked inside.

As I walked down the aisle, I could spot many familiar faces. I soon reached the end of the aisle where my mother and Nahyuta stood. I turned to face what would be the audience. Nahyuta spoke. "Good so far. After you face the people, his magistry will read the rite of ascension, followed by the giving of the tome of the Holy Mother. Then, you will give your prayer offering before being crowned."

I looked at him. "My coronation isn't for another week. Surely we won't need more rehearsals after this?" He shook his head. "Mother wants everything to be perfect."

As he finished his sentence, the doors burst open. Several men entered, flanking another. Nahyuta, Apollo, Datz, and Mr. Wright were quick to block Rayfa, my mother, and I from the men. But I knew exactly who he was.

He was an ex member of Inga's secret police. He gained support from criminals for his ideas of overthrowing the kingdom and usurping the power we held. But the only way to do that would be to murder the entirety of the royal family.

He spoke. "So, the princess is ready to become queen? What a shame." My mother spoke. "The only shameful one I see here is you." He chuckled at my mother's words. "In any case, I am here for only one thing." He addressed everyone in the room. "I, Tak'een, declare myself the new king of Khura'in!"

The men with him swarmed the room, trying to contain everyone and get to us. Even the guards were no match for his men. We managed to get out of the room, but Nahyuta stayed in an effort to give us time. Father would have been proud. A few tears dripped down my cheeks as I thought of what could happen to him.

Mother led us through the servants entrance and out of the palace. She turned to Rayfa and I. "You must flee from here. If Tak'een captures all of us, there will be nothing we can do." Rayfa looked at her with teary eyes. "But-!" Mother cut her off. "Go!"

We ran with Mr. Wright, Datz, and Apollo at our sides. I looked back one more time to see my mother being surrounded by Tak'een's men. She stood strong. She stood like a true queen.

We were led to father's old law office. Datz locked the door and windows and blocked off the manhole entrance. "As long as the princesses stay in Khura'in, he'll never stop looking for them." I led Rayfa to the sofa and we both sat down. I hugged her. "Everything will be fine."

Mr. Wright spoke. "Then we need to get them out of Khura'in. They'll come with me on the next flight back home. I'll arrange for a private plane." Apollo nodded. "Good. Looks like I'll be leaving with you then. They'll be after me as well."

...

Later that night, Rayfa and I changed out of our clothes and into common ones. Our face markings were removed and our faces obscured by hoods. When night fell, we left towards the airport, catching a ride on the back of a yak cart.

The ride was silent. Rayfa glued herself to my side, trying to act strong despite everything. I hugged her, closed my eyes, and just hoped that everything would turn out for the better.

We arrived at the airport without much trouble. Datz saw us off, deciding to stay behind to gather the defiant dragons. If everything went to plan, they could remove Tak'een in a few months time.

We were able to board the plane without any trouble, and soon, we were on our way to the states.

To unfamiliar lands.

...

Amara stood in the throne room, staring Tak'een down. He looked back at her, a small smirk playing on his lips. "You can't hide them forever. We will find them, and once I do-" Amara cut him off. "The Holy Mother will strike you down with fitting vengeance before you ever find them."

Tak'een snapped his fingers. "Is that so?" Two of Tak'een's men brought Nahyuta into the room. His hands were cuffed but Amara could see blood dried under his nose and a bruise on his cheek. Tak'een chuckled. "It seems he knows where the princesses are. But he won't talk. He's as defiant as his father, if he was still alive, that is."

Neither Amara nor Nahyuta reacted to his words. Tak'een looked at his guards. "Lock them in the cell. I want the dragon bast*rd questioned later. Do what you need to, but leave him alive. And do not harm the Queen. She still has use to me."

One of the guards grabbed Amara by the arm. Nahyuta spat at Tak'een's feet. "You will never find them. You can do whatever you wish to me, but I will never yield to you."

Tak'een scoffed and waved the guards off. "Take them away." The guards took the two out of the room without much trouble. Nahyuta looked at his mother. He wanted to struggle, but he couldn't let her get hurt because of him. Not again.

The two were thrown into a cold stone cell with little more than a dirty bowl of water and stale bread. Once the guards left, the two looked through the barred window, just in time to see a plane lifting off into the dark twilight sky.

They did their part. And now, the only thing they could do was wait.
