"Let me do that, Auntie," I said, hoping my aunt would stop washing the dishes. But, she keep what she's doing without acknowledging me. I stood behind her, silently observing her.

I didn't want to repeat myself, fearing that she would get angry and slap me again. But..."Auntie...Alpha Eros said that I will start as his secretary tomorrow."

Despite her cold treatment towards me, I still wanted to share good news with her. I knew she would appreciate it because I would be working as Alpha's secretary at Hildart Group.

She paused for a moment, seemingly unable to ignore what I said. After a while, she resumed washing the dishes.

I grabbed a clean tablecloth to wipe the plates she had washed, all the while keeping an eye on her for any reaction.Perhaps she was annoyed with me, but it seemed like there was something holding her back.

Earlier, they mentioned that the Alpha was the reason behind the preparations for my birthday. I was genuinely curious as to why, but regardless, I knew my aunt had volunteered to make it happen. So, I still needed to thank her.

"Um... Auntie—"

"Your mother is my favorite among all my cousins," she suddenly interrupted, veering off from what I was saying. I was surprised because she seemed eager to share a story. "When we were young, we were both excited about shifting forms and meeting our destined mates."

Her words grabbed my full attention, and I couldn't help but listen intently.

"Unfortunately, our mates were rogues." I gulped at what I heard, taken aback by the revelation that her destined mate was also a rogue. She had finished washing the dishes and was now cleaning the sink. "The entire pack despised the rogues, seeing them as a threat. Anyone who mated with rogues was expected to reject them and find a new mate."

I didn't think it would be that easy to reject a mate and find another. After all, one's heartbeat is meant only for their mate and wouldn't resonate with anyone else.

'That's why our hearts only beat for the Alpha,' Nala interjected in the back of my mind.

I scolded her, 'Shut up.'

"We made a promise to do what was right. I rejected my mate, and I expected her to do the same. I even wondered why she hadn't found another mate yet, only to discover that she had continued her bond with the rogue."

My aunt sighed and wiped her hands with a towel. "I was angry with her because she chose her rogue mate, bringing embarrassment to herself and our family. We were called 'thieves' tails' because one of our family members accepted a rogue. My father was stripped of his position as head warrior. I never got a chance to hold such a position either. I was treated like a lowly Omega because of your mother's stubbornness. That's why I hate her."

She took a deep breath and continued, "She left the Dark Moon pack and went with that rogue. The Alpha tracked her down and forced my father to confess, even though he didn't know where they were. My father was dismissed and never returned."

She sighed once more, and I bowed my head, feeling ashamed of my mother's actions and the consequences that affected my aunt so deeply.

"Your mother returned, and she brought you with her. She asked us for help because she had nowhere else to go. Despite feeling bad for her, I accepted her. I sent her to this house for your safety. However, it's not easy to forget, Sophia," my aunt said, glancing at me as I bowed my head. "Besides the sin she committed against us, for which she needs to apologize, her behavior has worsened. I don't understand why she avoids you and the rest of our family."

I had also noticed that my mother had become distant, not only from me but from everyone else. I could feel her love, and she would always tell me so, but she was frequently absent. She would leave, and we wouldn't know where she went.
