Sienna's POV6 years ago.
I sit on my skateboard in the park. Enjoying the light breeze hitting my face and the people surrounding me. My classmates. Boy classmates to be more precise.
I enjoy their presence. But especially his.
Matthew.
He was always made fun of because of the freckles around his nose. But I like them. They make him look unique. And sort of cute.
I'm too shy to admit it though. Even when we are in private.
Okay, I take that back.
We are never in private just the two of us.
I look at the setting sun. I have probably more than 2 hours of light. I will stay for one more hour.
"Earth to Sienna?" My other classmate, Mark, says.
I focus back on my friends. "Yeah?"
"You seemed zoned out," he announces.
I let out a small laugh with a shake of my head. I was. I don't need to agree, they all know.
But looking back at my classmates. I realize they may not know. They are discussing something so much, they did not realize I wasn't participating in the conversation.
I make sure to fix that by directing all my attention to them.
"I don't know how," Matthew lets out.
Does he need help? I can help him. I want to help him. Maybe he will start liking me too.
"What are you guys talking about?" I ask, joining in the chat.
They look at me. Some look as if they forgot I was here. But hey, that can be only my imagination.
Matthew seems to think for a moment. I saw how he was thinking if he should tell me or not. It didn't take him a while.
Soon enough he replied, "I don't know how to start talking to this girl..."
The beating of my heart increased.
Girl?
"What girl?"
He gives me a weird look. "Her name is Emma. I don't know how to get her attention."
"Matthew has a crush, Matthew has a crush!" One of our classmates starts chanting over and over again.
Others laugh alongside Matthew.
He likes someone else.
I smile a little. Regretting I wasn't zoned out for longer.
I start giving him advice after advice.
Soon enough other boys join in. Talking about other girls. I hear the names of my girl friends too.
