Elijah Mikaelson

Flashback to 1758

THE loud chatter carried all the way upstairs but Morrigan was still rushing around, attempting to fix her hair or her lip stain or whatever she deemed imperfect, and I knew better than to stop her.

"Why don't we just stay here for the night? Wait for everyone to go home and then sneak downstairs and snag the leftover alcohol and snacks, hmm? Like old times?" I suggest but she just gives me a flat stare.

"The last time we did that was a party for some lord," she says, straightening my already straight jacket. "This is our engagement party that your brother so graciously put together so no, we can't skive off of this." She offers a hand to help me stand up from my spot on our bed before leading me downstairs.

No one really took notice of us except for people we knew personally, and as I suspected, it seemed as though the population of Louisiana had arrived.

We received a few congratulations and other empty wishes, but other than that, people took no notice of us.

"How many of these people do we know?" Mor asks me, leaning in closer.

"Other than my siblings?" I start, snaking my arm around her waist. "I'd say maybe five."

"How's this for a party?" My brother says, waltzing up to us with a glass of wine in his hand.

"It's wonderful, Nik," Morrigan says, letting go of my hand to hug him briefly. "Though I'm not sure how you fit this many people here."

"You have your magic, Brooky, and I have mine." He quips before turning to me. "So what do you think, brother? Not enough?"

"Plenty, Niklaus. This is one of your better ones."

"I try," he says before ushering for us to follow him.

There were drinks, dancing and everything in between needed for a party and Niklaus did it all. I handed my fianceé a drink and when I noticed all the chatter had stopped, I saw why.

My brother stood on the stairs, high enough so that everyone could see and hear his no doubt in-character speech.

"If I may have your attention, please?" He says, chiming a knife against his champagne flute. Everyone turns to him and a wide grin spreads across his face. "I've known Elijah my whole life. My noble older brother who was perpetually brooding." Niklaus says with enough dramatics for a whole stage act. "We met Morrigan not so long ago and since the day we did meet her, Elijah had not been able to keep his eyes off her, so to my brother and future sister, may your love stay eternal." My brother raises his glass and everyone else mimics him before chorusing the word 'cheers'.

I WAS walking around my kitchen, sipping from a blood bag while simultaneously looking for my keys.

Today was a day for shopping and food court lunch.
