Hugo stared at the screen, ignoring the auctioneers words, and just continued to stare at the girl with eyes too wide in suprise.
"This"
The Doctor covered his eyes with his hands, and began to slightly shake. Then, his body began to shake even more, small sounds coming from his throat. A small smile on his face turning into a maniacal grin too big for a normal person.
The doctor's hand moved from his eyes to his mouth, and it was clear that he was holding back his laughter.
Taking a second to compose himself, Hugo stopped laughing, but that uncomfortable smile remained on his face all the same.
"This is precious, too precious"
Freeze didn't say anything at the taunting tone in Strange's voice.
"Oh Victor, Victor Victor Victor Victor, what have you done?"
Instead of how such a sentence was normally said, with horror or maybe shock in one's voice, Hugo sounded almost impressed and maybe a little...proud?
"You've crossed a line, you've truly become detached from your humanity. There was still a chance for you, but now it's gone"
He sounded happy, ecstatic even despite the fact he shouldn't have been.
"I wonder what Nora would think if she woke up. To see the state her own husband put others in. It's so fascinating to imagine the possibilities"-
"I said not to bring her up"Hugo could tell, just by the slight change in the way Freeze stared at him, that he'd forgotten about his task of recruiting him and was prepared to kill him if he pushed the matter any farther.
"Tell me, how much more do you have. How many more. I want to know. Tell me now"
Hugo switched the conversation, excitement clear in his voice still as he turned his head back to the girl who was looking back and forth at the cheering crowd with clear fear.
"We call them Abnormals, or at least that's what those who reside in the 9th Circle have begun to call it. And how many....well......"
Freeze trailed off, not finishing his sentence and leaving it up to the doctor. This would help ignite his curiosity more, and in turn make it easier to rope him in.
"So, what do you think?"
"I think that- oh?"What the doctor said got Freeze's attention, and he turned his head to also face the screen.
The woman looked like she was glitching, with parts of her turning invisible seemingly at random.
"How embarrassing of a performance, Victor"
"Yes, the methods he used have left most of them too docile, to the point where they'll be useless when we need them as you can see, since it can lead to a lack of control"Hugo nodded. He was interested, very interested in fact, in what Freeze was saying. However, it wasn't the reason Freeze thought it was.
'Virgil mentioned something about Abnormals, and how the women from when he first entered the Outskirts thought he was one. Is this why?'
Before his train of thought could continue, through the holograph Strange heard the shattering of glass.
Looking back towards the display, Hugo saw the last thing he wanted to see. Something he was both grateful for since it could help him get out of the situation, but still made him feel uneasy and frustrated at the action being performed.
That action, was you jumping through the glass wall and out of your booth.
