It had been two years since the last Day of Pranks. Due to their tour, the previous year's competition had been put on pause. So, when the date rolled around again, Big Time Rush was itching to get back into it.
James, Logan, Carlos, Kendall, Katie, and Kit stood by the kitchen counter, staring at the ticking countdown. The seconds beat down from 7 to 0. Carlos and James lifted up their plunger-trumpets and imitated an upbeat fanfare. They had taped yellow and purple flags to some of Buddha Bob's plungers with the letters 'LP' in red letters glued on top.
Logan carried Lord Prankerton's Book of Rules in and set it gently down on the kitchen table. He sat down at the head of the table. Carlos and James took the seats at either side of him. Reluctantly, Kit slipped into the chair next to James. She didn't share in the boys' excitement.
Katie and Kendall each held their half of the crown from the Girls versus Guys Prank War.
"Ladies and Gentlemen," Kendall addressed. "The Day of Pranks is once again upon us."
Katie smiled. "Today, we find out who unites the two halves of the crown to become.."
They held the halves together to demonstrate.
"Sir High Lord King of Pranks."
"Or Queen," Kendall added.
The others nodded along. Katie and Kendall gently placed the two halves of the homemade crown onto the table and pushed them together. Kendall held out his hands in presentation. It was soon snatched away from them by a net.
James yelped. All heads whipped up to find Mama Knight standing on the swirly slide balcony. She held a large net in her hands where she had captured the crown.
The boys and Kit scrambled to stand by Katie and Kendall, staring up at her. Mrs. Knight played along. She spoke in her best page voice:
"Here ye, hear me. As Mom of this manor, I hereby declare The Day of Pranks canceled."
She dropped the act and glared at them. The six teens shared looks. Kit and Katie offered their mom guilty grins. Kit blew out a slow breath.
She crossed her arms over her chest. Pranks were something that Kit had hated for years now; she once got caught in the crossfire between Carlos and James and her long hair was sacrificed as a result. She still hadn't fully forgiven them for forcing her to cut her hair and get unfortunate bangs. While she had put that on pause to help the girls win the last time, Kit was hesitant to go ahead with another.
But Kit didn't have long to dwell on it. Her mother made her way down to the teens quickly, holding the two halves in her hands as she smirked at them. She crossed her arms over her chest.
The teens stood in a line as they approached her.
"Mom," said Kendall. "I love you, but the Day of Pranks will happen!"
"And I will be king!" James added.
"No," Logan cut in. "I will."
Carlos stepped forwards, "I will rule the Land of Pranks!"
"And you can't keep track of what we do today," Katie chimed in. "There's only one of you, and six of us."
"Yeah, well," Mama Knight shot back. "I am not the only one who hates the Day of Pranks."
